Author's note

Hello everyone. I want to use this means to appreciate everyone of you for taking your time to support me and this book. I am very grateful. I do not mind corrections and respectful criticisms. It is my first time writing a werewolf story and I intend to learn so keep the comments coming even if they are negative. Just be clear and respectful about it. So far, comments have been respectful even while offering criticism and I do appreciate that from the bottom of my heart. While I might have stockpiled chapters ahead, your comments help shape the edits I make and how I move the story forward. My main purpose is to entertain you all. I will really appreciate it if you can tell me what you think about the book so far. Note: Everything I've written so far has a purpose and you will see how that plays out in coming chapters. While this book is a rejection/second chance themed book, the plot goes beyond that. Please comment and tell me what you think. I'll be pausing updates f

Chapter 61

Samantha's POVI had to cook up a lie to tell Adrian the reason Alaric was in our room. I couldn't possibly tell him it was because I had fainted and had some vision. I didn't want to worry him. He was too young for all the drama happening in my life right now. While some were unavoidable for him to witness, I'd protect him from the ones I could. Today, Luna Tamia had asked for a favour from me and that was to have Adrian for the day which I couldn't object to so I let her have him.I had returned to my research like I hadn't fainted twice or had a surreal vision yesterday. Adam was quite respectful enough not to ask me anything. I could tell the question was heavy in his mouth, but he did his best to hold it back until he couldn't."Are you not going to talk about it?" He finally asked. I paused for a few seconds and turned to him. I also had my own questions that I needed him to answer; I was just waiting until after our research for the day."Are you not going to tell me why you d

Chapter 62

Samantha's POV"Except she's an insecure woman," he said and walked towards the door that led to our eating area. I followed him hastily. I could just walk out on him, but no matter how angry I was, I couldn't disrespect him at every chance I got. He was still the Alpha of my pack."I don't want to talk to you, Ric. I don't want to eat your food," I said behind him, but he ignored me and pulled a chair at the dining area. He looked at me intensely, and my heart reacted instantly. Maybe this was because he saved Adrian. Maybe my heart was just leaping at every chance around him because I was grateful.'We've been like this since we returned to this pack, what are you talking about, Samantha?' Ariana said, and I almost swore at her. She acted more on instinct. I was the mind of reasoning here."But you accepted it," Alaric said, his gaze still boring into my soul."Because I was going to trash it," I said, purposely to annoy him. Annoying him was better than having lunch with him. I mea

Chapter 63

Samantha's POV"You're not eating?" Alaric said while already taking a spoonful of his. He stopped and raised his gaze to me."I'm not hungry," I said, folding one hand below the table. Alaric dropped his spoon and relaxed back on his chair."I'm not leaving here until you eat that," He said, and I passed him a sharp look. I was in disbelief. "That's bullying, Alaric," I said, and he chuckled mockingly, then leaned towards the table with arms resting on it."Really?" He said, tilting his head nonchalantly. "I mean, you can try to leave." He had brought his voice low to speak, but the threat in his voice still remained. I looked away, boiling within. Weren't him and Lily just the same? Bullying because they were in a position of power. What a perfect match."The only reason I'm pinned down to this chair is because of Adrian. I don't need him being subdued by your aura all because you're pissed off at a lady!" I said, raising my voice.Alaric hissed and passed me a sharp look this time

Chapter 64

Samantha's POVI was now left alone with Adam. He was still standing by the door, just giving that stare that was enough scolding. I sighed; I knew he was about to make me explain. It wasn't easy not to get on Alaric's nerves because he was also annoying to begin with; Adam just didn't know that. He finally took his first step, then came into the dining area. For real, I felt I was being scolded already, even without him saying a word."What happened in here?" Adam asked. He sounded disappointed."Alpha Ric got mad, like you already know," I said. I was in my defensive mode now."What did you do?" He asked."Like you might have guessed. He still insisted we ate and talked about work in here. I didn't want that, and he got mad," I said, intentionally skipping the part where I walked out on him because I didn't want Adam to drag this matter any further. Even if he agreed with me, he couldn't just scold Ric or do anything about it. Ric was his Alpha too."Really?" Adam said, tilting his

Chapter 65

Samantha's POVI arrived at Adam's house by seven at night with Adrian. We had dinner together, and I put Adrian to sleep in one of the rooms Adam had prepared for us. I would have lived with Adam had Ric not insisted I lived within the royal pack house. I bet I'd feel more at home, although I couldn't deny that it felt cool to have beautiful scenery and wonderful food service at the royal pack house, as well as other perks that came with staying there.Adam and I sat by the veranda on one of his old benches. I never lived with Adam in the past, but his place felt so homey as though I did. Also, Adam and I had gotten closer during my years at Arcana Hills, we were never this close until I left for the Academy. He always visited and spoke to me and Adrian often then he became the parent I never had, and I loved him for that.To think that he had no family of his own, no mate, as he claimed he had no mate. It was saddening because Adam was a wonderful man. I wondered why someone as prec

Chapter 66

Samantha's POVI couldn't even describe the shock I felt hearing Adam say that about my mum. It meant that what I saw meant something, and it drove me back to the very question I had been asking all my life: Who was I? Where was I really from? What kind of werewolf was I?Adam had narrated the first time he saw my mum fall unconscious, but it wasn't her first time, she had told Adam that prior to her seeking refuge in Raven fur pack, she had experienced it twice, so that was the third time. It took her thirteen years to have a third vision. I wondered what the first two were about. When Adam tried to know more about it and about her background in general she said nothing. My mother Celeste, was one with either a big secret or too many secrets. She had come to Adams house that night, saying she felt she was about to have another episode and didn't want just anyone seeing her fall unconscious. After she woke up, she sketched what she saw, which happened to be the same herb I saw too a

Chapter 67

Samantha's POV"That's your job, Samantha." I gasped, totally in disbelief and ready to resist. No way was he putting me up to the task. Having to explain to Alaric or asking anything from him? That would bruise my ego."No, I can't. He won't want to do it because it's me," I said. He'd probably make me pay for my defiant attitude towards him. What if he made me beg for it?"You mean Alpha Ric wouldn't care to save his pack however he can just because of a beef with you?" Adam said, making my earlier remark sound ridiculous."Please...." I begged, holding Adam's hands, but he shook his head and pulled his hand away from me."No, Samantha. You need to learn to respect your Alpha, and this situation will humble you," He said firmly. "You're not here to have your revenge on Alpha Ric. You're here to fulfill a duty. Don't let your grudge come in between that." He said, moving closer to me.He placed both hands on my shoulder and locked my gaze in his. "You deserve better than holding on t

Chapter 68

Samantha's POV"Sit down," He said, which I proudly did."It's a plant," I said, going straight to the point like he had said."A plant?" He repeated, looking confused, and I nodded. I hoped I didn't sound crazy."It's in Nightveil. I was hoping you could secure an entrance at Nightveil to help me get it." Adam had already briefed Alaric earlier today. I didn't know what he said exactly, but I knew he mentioned my visions to Ric."How sure are you?" Seeing that he wasn't asking about how I knew about Nightveil, Adam probably briefed him on that too."I'm very sure," I said. What's the worst that could happen? A failed attempt at finding a cure, then we'd find something else. The point was to get him to accept.Ric relaxed back on his chair, seemingly deep in thought. "It's not going to be easy.""I know, Adam mentioned.""Yes, because if they refuse, you'll have to send several pleas and go the extra mile to prove that you deserve an entrance. The latter is usually the case. Most time

Chapter 69

Samantha's POVI couldn't believe Ric had made me sign my signature just so I could be his number two on the journey to Nightveil. I swear I wasn't prepared mentally and most especially emotionally. How long would the journey be? It worried me, but I couldn't bring myself to ask Ric that question. I was scared of knowing.I already hated the way my heart reacted to him every time we were close, and now I was put in this situation with him. Adam made things worse by refusing to go in my stead when I pleaded with him. He said it was an Alpha's command and he couldn't interfere.I was disappointed, but I already ran out of time to convince anyone of anything. It was a day to our departure and I was on a video call with my friends Julian and Liv, talking about the journey tomorrow."What does Nightveil look like?" Liv had asked. I had told both her and Julian about everything that happened, including my visions. They expressed their worry, and Liv was more worried that I had to be togeth
