Chapter 1Melody’s father is the beta of The Skyline Pack. Their pack, which is located in sunny California, is among the richest packs in the country. This caused many of the pack members to act like they were above it all. Melody’s life started out like any typical family. Her mother and father loved her and were proud of her and her brother. Laurie, her mother, doted on her, she was her pride and joy. Eric, her brother, was two years older than her and they got along very well, he was her protector. Chapter 3Drew is in the corner of the hallway waiting for Melody. When she leaves the stairs, she smells something sweet and woodsy. She glances around but doesn’t see anyone. Shaking off the feeling someone is there she proceeds to take out her key card and open the door.Drew quietly comes up behind Melody wrapping his arms around her waist. Chapter 5The place is very busy with trucks coming and going. Melody studies each driver hoping to pick out the right one. There is a gentleman, that looks a little younger than her dad, who has caught her eye. She has a good feeling about him. “Excuse me sir, would you like some company on your ride?”“Where do you want to go, little girl?”“Anywhere but here.” The man looks at her for a minute. Melody is afraid he won’t take her. “Well, I am going cross country, all the way to Texas then across to Florida and then north to Maine. It will take three or four weeks from start to end. If you want to ride with me, I can put you to work helping me tarp the loads.”“Tarping? I don’t know what that is. I am a fast learner if you show me.”“This is tarping.” He shows her the tarps that cover his load. “If you want to work, I’ll pay you the going rate and you get your ride.”“I would like to go with you. Chapter 7When the meal was done Charley got serious. “I think it is time for you to tell me what is going on with you.”Melody looked down at her empty plate. She slowly moved her eyes up to meet his. “Can it wait until we get back to the room?”“If that makes you more comfortable.” They left the restaurant to head back to their rooms. Melody walked very slow, not wanting to have this talk. “There is a bench and little sitting area outside over there by our rooms. Why don’t we sit there in the fresh air and talk. Chapter 9“There’s the car rental place the guy told me about. Let’s see what they have to rent.”The car rental man saw them coming in, they were a mess. He stared at them and reluctantly asks, “What can I do for you?”“We are looking for a luxury car.” His stare got intense, like he was wasting his time talking to them.Quite rudely he informs them. “There is an SUV available and a Mercedes.”“Give me the SUV. I need something with leg room.”“If you want the car, we need a credit card and a valid license. You do know that you have to return the car clean, not covered in dirt. The gas tank has to be full also or there will be a charged placed on the credit card.”“I understand, your car will be clean when we return it.
