21. Unity Front

"Faye!" Gwen yelled when all six of them arrived, then rushed over to examine her. Emris gently lowered Faye to the ground, and she stumbled sideways- her sight compromised with black spots. "Whoa!" Emris held her shoulders to steady her. "Are you okay, dear?" Gwen questioned, and Faye nodded. "What happened?" Nick questioned, smelling blood on them."We need to sit down for this." Emris replied. Gwen and Nick looked at each other with furrowed brows, then at Emris. Suddenly, Faye clutched onto Gwen's hand, her eyes rolled to the back of her head and she fell. "Faye!" Gwen screamed as Emris quickly scooped Faye's body off the floor and ran into the house. •••Faye's eyes fluttered open to the familiar ceiling of her room. She slowly sat up on her bed as she recalled the last moments before her blackout, then sighed. "Just as I thought, bringing someone back to life takes a toll on my body."The door swung open, and Emris walked in with breakfast on a bed tray."You're awake."

22. Training

Ryuu walked into the kitchen, then froze up when he met eyes with Mabel. *Well, this is a fun start to a new day.* He mused. He quickly turned on his heels to leave. "You don't have to do that." Mabel said, freezing him in his tracks. Ryuu turned around with a nervous grin. "Do what?""Run away the second you see me. It's getting pretty annoying at this point.""I'm sorry ma'am." "You've spent one week completely focused building stamina and strength, this time we'll focus on something a little harder." Emris announced. He and Faye stood in the middle of a large training field next to the Rune family estate. "You're proficient in blood flow awareness and pulse control and containment, so we'll start from endurance building." He continued, then stepped back. He extended a claw, then cut his skin. "Create multiple floating spheres of blood.""You didn't have to cut yourself." Faye started. "I could draw your blood through your nose, sweat glands, eyes or ears."Emris blinked, the thought of blood leaking from those parts of his body sending shivers down his spine. "Absolutely not. The moon bonding ceremony happened four times a year, every three months. It was a sacred night where bonds and fated love was celebrated. And the Lycans -more in tune with nature and peace- uphold it as one of the greatest nights for their race. It was unexpected, but the recent turn of events favoured Faye. Her mind raced with a thousand thoughts as she made her way to her room, Nick's words repeating in her mind like a coo-coo clock.She *did* claim she would make Emris love her. However, nothing went her way for the past month. Their role as a couple seemed like a gift from the moon goddess. A small smirk tugged at the corner of her lips. Ryuu watched Mabel's eyes light up when she bit into her sandwich, and an unconscious smile grew on his lips. She looked like a child who'd just tried a new snack, especially with the way her cheeks inflated. She looked like a chipmunk. Moments like these, he couldn't help but see her exactly the way she looked- a gorgeous woman in her early twenties, wild and fun. It got him curious. What was she like twenty years ago? The day of the moon bonding ceremony came quicker than Faye had hoped. It was 9am, and she stood with Mabel in one of the many empty rooms in the Mansion, practicing the sacred moon bond dance. Their movements were slow, graceful and mesmerising."What exactly is this dance for again?" Ryuu asked, sitting at one corner of the large room and snacking on a bag of chips. "It's a sacred dance performed at the peak of the ceremony when the moon is at its highest and brightest. Faye stared out the window of the car and at the full moon that seemed to follow them. She clutched a handful of her black off-shoulder dress, struggling to take deep breaths in. Emris sat across from her, Mabel next to Emris and Ryuu next to her. The closer they got to the venue -which was in the middle of town- the more tense she became. For a month now, she'd been a rumor, someone the pack was aware of and had occasionally seen from a distance, but tonight would seal her identity and role amongst the Lycans. The car stopped, and she felt her stomach fold from anxiety. She could hear the distant chatters as they alighted the car. She and Ryuu followed after Emris and Mabel, heading towards their table for the rest of the night- next to the Alpha and Luna. *What did he just say?* Faye's eyes went wide, and she held her breath when his gaze shifted- a look of absolute longing in them. *This is fake...right?* She clenched her jaw, then avoided his eyes. "Keep your eyes on me, Faye." He commanded as they circled each other, their hands crossed as they moved instinctively to the music. Faye hesitated, but met his eyes once again. They moved in perfect synchrony, as if they'd danced together for lifetimes. Emris subtly touched the back of her neck, and she let out a gasp as her body shuddered. She turned around, drawing closer to him, and he lifted her off the floor, gently lowering her to the ground. Now, their faces inches apart, Faye held his face in her small hands and her heart skipped a beat when he let out a low, satisfied growl. Faye found herself in a room that seemed to stretch for miles and miles without an end. There were gorgeous candles to brighten the room, but the light on the candles were not fire, they were stars.
