“What is it?” Ava asked, her tone heavy with unease. Liam drew in a deep breath, as if preparing himself to make an unlikely disclosure.He began “It's about the woman who was allegedly killed in this house.” Ava blinked, her voice shrinking to a whisper “Derah Paige?” She immediately remembered Amelia and the reason she snuck into Evie's room that day. She never expected to find Liam's results instead. But why was he suddenly bringing up her case? Did he find out who actually killed her? “That's right. Derah Paige” Liam answered with a nod. “The night before she died, the night you fell ill, she was in your room” Her eyes flew wide “My room? How do you—”“I could see, remember?” he clarified with an edge in his tone. Steadying his voice, he said “She came with the motive….of killing you, but she got frightened away when she saw me” “What?!” Ava's eyes dilated in horror, shock written all over her face. “Wow,” Ava breathed, taking in the sight around her as she and Liam were led to their table. “This place is actually… beautiful.”The restaurant looked like something out of those fancy commercials. Soft amber light spilled from wall sconces, angled upward to cast gentle shadows across the walls. The ceiling was arched elegantly, with delicate chandeliers, their glow dulled to create a warm, intimate atmosphere.The most surprising thing, though, was the silence. Rows of tables arranged across the space, each set with white linen and glimmering silverware, yet they were all….empty. The only sounds were the faint hum of music from hidden speakers.
