That night, Jessica felt tired and drained. While making food for Anya she suddenly felt a hurt in her belly. At first, she thought it was just worrying and being worn out. But the hurt got sharper, making ͏her stop for a bit. “This has to be short,” she said softly to herself, trying to ease herself. But when she got to the bathroom, the pain was bigger. She tried to take deep breaths but when she saw her face in the mirror, her face looked white.  Suddenly, Jessica felt sick. In a flash, she threw up into the sink- blood. Jessica looked down “I just didn’t have a choice, Jonas.” Jonas gazed at Anya, who was still dozing in Kevin’s arms. “Sometimes, what we name wonders… arrive as her.” Jessica smiled. Tired, but sincere. After Jonas went, Kevin put Anya in bed on a little couch by the window. The room felt more calm Jessica looked out of the window, the clouds were starting to hang gray a sign rain was coming "I sometimes think," she said quiet. "Is my life just a group of loses and giving ups?" Kevin didn’t answer. "But now when I saw Anya's face, I felt maybe not? Maybe this is all the way for me." Kevin stood next to the bed. “And you went that way in the brave way I ever saw” Jessica stared at Kevin. “I don’t need pity.”  

“Dad…” Randy lifted his hand, wanting some time. Then he cleaned his face. “You see... When you got better at first I felt thankful each day. But now... why must you do this once more?” Jessica came up and grabbed her dad’s hand. “I’m tough, Dad. This time I am not by myself. Jonas is here, Kevin also helps with Anya.” “Kevin?” Randy looked at Jonas for a bit. “Do you care if the kid comes?” Jonas grinned sadly. “In the beginning, it was tough. But I got used to it. Because Jessica isn’t only mine; she is also a mom to Anya.” Randy gave a slow nod. “Anya... Yes, that kid saved your life.” Jessica laughed softly. “Yes, Dad.” Randy hit Jonas on the shoulder. “Thanks for looking after her.” 

He stared at Jonas sharply. “That’s you?” Jonas moved his head bit by bit. “No, but I know a person.” Jessica frowned. “Kevin?” Jonas nodded. Jessica fell silent. Jonas went on, “He paid for all things without telling no one. I just found out yesterday when I asked because there was a chance to enter the patient's priority.” Jessica felt her mind blur. She didn’t take her eyes off the IV drip and the fluid that was dripping at a steady pace.  “Why did he do that?” she inquired as though voicing the question took a toll on her. Jonas exhaled sharply.  “Maybe... because of guilt. Or love that he couldn’t express. Or because he realized you were the only person who cared about Anya like your own flesh and blood.” 

When the nurse went away she grabbed her phone and opened the picture album. There was an image of Anya napping in her arms, a pic with her dad in the kitchen, a snap of Jonas quietly kissing her head while they sat in the hospital yard. She tapped the screen then whispered; “I will fight I will be back” Afternoon after the chemo time was done Jessica stopped at the office to ask for info about the costs. She knew her savings were low. She had secretly sold some of her things, even thinking about selling a house from her mother’s inheritance. “Sorry, Mrs. Jessica,” said the cop “For this round͏ of chemo... everything is paid in full.” Jessica was surprised. “Paid for?
