(Selene’s POV) There was laughter, a few surprised gasps, and a flurry of congratulations that came their way. My lips parted slightly, but no words came out. Ryker gazed at me and there was something unreadable in his gaze, guilt, maybe regret, but before I could make sense of it, he looked away. I stood there, my fingers curling tightly around the strap of the small bag I carried. It wasn’t supposed to sting this much. I had told myself I’d moved on. I had even started believing it.
