AutumnI remained in the room until I heard a knock, and I thought that it was Dante who had returned. I hurried to the door even though I told myself that I didn’t want to see or speak to him. However, I believed I was just worried about him, especially as he left my room without saying a word.Dante was fond of this.He would walk out without saying a word when I said something or he discovered something, and I came to the realization that it left something in me that I didn’t like. It made me feel a certain kind of way. When I opened the door and saw Camille standing right there with a tray of food, I was utterly disappointed.“Oh,” I said dully, unable to help myself.“Can I come in?” She requested politely. As much as I didn’t want to also speak to Camille right now, I stepped aside so that she could come into the room and she did with the tray of food.“It seems like you were expecting someone else,” Camille said lightly after I shut the door and she placed the tray of food gent

Dante“Something feels off,” Granduncle Gonzalez said after staying thoughtful for a few minutes, which seemed like hours. The men had assembled to have a discussion about what happened with Maria as expected. Granduncle Gonzalez wanted Dominic to be absent, being that he wasn’t a part of the family, but I insisted that he stayed. Dominic was even more of a brother to me than David had ever been.“I felt the same way too, but I didn’t want to say because I didn’t want Dante to bite my head off,” David added.Of course, he would take the side of his granduncle.I still hadn’t said a word about having the audacity to sit on my seat and trying to take over from me, but that was something I was already handling in my own way. “What exactly feels off?” I asked Granduncle Gonzalez, choosing to ignore David.“Maria is not that kind of woman. She would never do something like that,” Granduncle Gonzalez responded.“How can you be vouching for someone you have no knowledge about?” I asked him

Dante“Thank you, Autumn, that is all the answer we need,” granduncle Gonzalez said.I ground my teeth in both annoyance and disappointment.Autumn wasn’t given a heads up, but I had thought that she would understand the situation and just act accordingly. Granduncle Gonzalez refused for either Dominic or me to look anywhere close to the door when Autumn showed up.“If I as much as sense any form of cunningness from any of you, I am going to ensure that you get married to Maria this very weekend,” he had threatened. As much as I could very well rebel against him, which I was willing to do, I didn’t want a situation whereby it would get to that point, especially as Dominic and I had gone to this length to ensure that we got everything right.Only for Autumn to walk right in and say exactly what she wasn’t meant to say.“Is everything okay?” Autumn asked worriedly. And she was also confused.“Everything is perfect, Autumn. You may leave us now,” granduncle Gonzalez said with a proud sm

AutumnI could not get over what Maria said even as I remained in the room. It was just too much to bear. It seemed like there was a dark family secret that the De Luca’s family had that I should never have known about, and now that I did, shivers ran down my spine.“What have I gotten myself into?” I asked myself worriedly.Dante didn’t respond to the question I had asked about orchestrating everything that happened, but he seemed guilty enough. How terrible could he be?If he wanted to get rid of Maria, all he had to do was say so, right? For the life of me, I just couldn’t see why he would put her through something like that. Everything I had learned about the De Luca family only told me one thing; they were dangerous. And Dante was just like his father.“Well, I am not like my mum,” I muttered to myself. When my cell phone rang, I picked up without even checking who the caller was, or maybe it was because I was trying to get away from the thoughts that were crowding my head.“Hell

AutumnThe address that Abel gave to me was somewhere not too far away from the city, so it wasn’t difficult to locate, and I understood that because he wanted privacy, he would choose somewhere that would give him just that.Getting a cab wasn’t difficult for me, and soon enough, I got to the small restaurant where Abel was already waiting.“Hi, Abel,” I said as I slid into the chair that had been reserved for me.And almost immediately, I noticed that he was agitated.“What’s wrong?” I asked. His eyes were also red, and I simply concluded that it was from crying hard enough that must have made them look like that. When my dad died, my eyes were also red and puffy from crying nonstop, so I completely understood him.But what I didn’t understand was why he was agitated.“You seem nervous,” I added.“It is because I didn’t think you would come,” Abel said in a remorseful tone.He was even more sullen than he sounded on the phone some minutes ago.“Why would you think that?” I asked.“C
