He had insisted on accompanying her to the follow-up appointment despite his busy schedule. Ellyse hadn’t argued. She knew he was worried about the baby, and perhaps she was a little comforted by having someone familiar beside her. “Ms. Ellyse?” Dr. Sanchez spoke, gaining both of their attentions. Ellyse stood, and Kai immediately rose with her. The nurse led them into the examination room, where Dr. Sanchez was already reviewing her medical records. “It’s good to see you again,” Dr. Sanchez said warmly. “How have you been feeling since your last appointment?” she added.
