Mary's POV I walked downstairs slowly with my bare feet cold against the floor. The mansion was even bigger in daylight with all the high ceilings and expensive artwork making it feel more like a museum than a home. Sylvia walked ahead of me and she kept talking, nonstop. "...and Mr. Brown doesn’t like people touching his things," she added. "Oh! And never go into his study! That’s his private space. He gets very angry if anyone disturbs him there." Mary's POV I left the Brown mansion before the sun was fully up as I was eager to step out of the suffocating place. Reid was already gone. Sylvia told me he left at 5 AM for a business trip. I didn’t want to see him anyway. The car ride to MarRod Group felt strange. It was the only company I had left that I planned to give to Danny a few days ago. It had been years since I had been to the company, when I was still in a fake marriage with Rodney. Now? Things had changed. Mary's POV I closed from work pretty late as there was so much to do in the little time and I was feeling completely drained. My head was already throbbing from the meetings and paperwork. As the door slipped open, I walked into the foyer to meet Sylvia who greeted me with her usual bright smile. "Mrs. Brown, I have prepared you a hot bath! Thought you might need it after your first day at work!" For once, I was grateful for her annoying cheerfulness as a hot bath was something I really needed. Mary's POV A whole week had passed since that awful night in Reid’s study. It had been seven days since I signed that ridiculous contract, seven days since he dropped the bombshell about fertility treatments. And seven blissful days without seeing his face. Sylvia told me he had left for a business trip to Italy the morning after our argument. She had been extra chatty as she was trying to fill me in on all of Reid’s habits. From how he used to travel often and how he hated gatherings to how he sometimes disappeared for weeks. If only she knew that I didn’t care, the less I saw of my so-called husband, the better. Mary's POV Reid’s hand stayed firm on my waist as he led me through the crowd. His grip was so tight that it got painful. It seemed as if he was afraid that I would disappear if he let go. The heat from his touch burned through the thin fabric of my dress and it made me uncomfortable. He stopped us near a quiet corner where there was less attention and turned me to face him. His dark eyes swept over me from head to toe. He clenched his jaw as his gaze landed on the low neckline of my dress. "Did you wear this dress to seduce every man here?" he asked with a low but rough voice, "Or are you actually here for business?" Lifting my chin to meet his glare, I replied, "I’ll take that as a compliment." Reid’s fingers dug into my hip. "Don't you know that I don’t like people staring at what’s mine." I scoffed. "Yours? The last time I checked, I signed a contract, you will only be my husband in the eyes of the people," I explained to him. His eyes darkened and I immediately realized

Mary's POV The car finally drove into the gates of the Brown mansion after what felt like forever. My whole body had become tense as I had sat so stiffly next to Reid all the way to avoid having anything to do with him. As soon as the car stopped, I reached for the door handle to get out as fast as I could, away from the tension between us. I had planned to run to my room and lock the door. But Reid was quicker, he caught me off guard grabbed me on my wrist. His grip wasn’t painful but it was firm. I gasped as I couldn’t pull away or move. "Let go!" I yelled but he ignored. The driver opened Reid’s door. He stepped out and pulled me so hard that I stumbled a little in my heels. But Reid’s arm was already around my waist to steady me before I could trip.
