Chapter Twenty-One: The Queen admits her feelings

Meilin, shocked to find the Queen’s face so close to hers, reacts on instinct, her heart galloping in her throat. “Your Highness,” she exclaims, her expression nervous, as she scoots away from the Queen’s nearness. Yuelan places her hand on her servant’s shoulders to stop her retreat. “Take it easy, you are injured,” she tells the blonde, her tone mild, and the hard edges of her skin softened with a fond expression. The young Queen’s affectionate expression dumbfounds Meilin, who gazes at the beautiful face still close to hers in confusion. The Queen looks… the blonde pauses in her thought as she couldn’t believe what her eyes see. Worried. The idea that the Queen is worried about her seems ridiculous to the blonde, judging by how cold and detached the Queen has been to her. “They are here?” Yuelan questions as Lu Tiang helps her out of the Queen’s carriage. Lu Tiang nods, and together they walk toward the shed that houses the tied-up bandits. Lu Tiang opens the door, going before the young queen, ensuring her safety, before ushering her in. The seven bandits, all tied up on the floor, gasp with terror at the appearance of the Queen. They gape at her like she is an apparition. Yuelan stands tall before the terrified men, her bearing confident and intimidating. She stares down at them coldly, her brown eyes burning with barely controlled fury. How dare they lay a hand on what belongs to her? Her murderous rage has the men peeing in their pants as they scuttle away from the terrifying Queen. They have had her tale, how she nearly sent a man to the execution block for laying a hand on her servant, but their greed for money blinded them. Something they now regret dreadfully. Watching with a cold, stern expression, Lu Tiang waits for the Queen’s orders.

Chapter Twenty-Three: The Sailor's Storm

Yuelan’s whispered words tickles the ears of the Queen Mother, giving her a feeling that she heard something, but the actual words never made it to her brain for comprehension. As Yuelan listened to the blonde servant wove tales of her family, the adventures she undertook with her brothers. The tales of her older twin brothers, and their over protectiveness, the mischief of the younger ones, her heart experiences envy. Though the girl beside her came from a poor family, her life sounds rich. She might have come from wealth, her family might have a high social standing, but her upbringing had been cold and lonely. The Queen’s physical appearance took the breathe out of everyone around her. The ladies all stood with awe on their faces, asking themselves how the gods could bless one female with so much beauty. One of the ladies standing around the garden gawking at the Queen as she glided around saying hello to everyone couldn’t help commenting on the Queen’s beauty. The Palace physician feels Mei’s pulse for a few seconds longer before turning to answer the Queen. “I believe your servant passed out from exhaustion. When was the last time she ate something?” Yuelan doesn’t have the answer to the question, so she looks to A-yan for answers. The brunette looks away with a sheepish expression. She can’t remember seeing the blonde eat anything and also she has been busy trying to make sure everything happened smoothly that she lost track of the blonde. Yuelan shakes her head at her servant, but she also feels guilty for not taking care of the blonde properly. She thanks the physician, promising that she would make sure the blonde eats properly so such a thing doesn’t happen again.
