"What's going on?" Sage mumbled as she walked into the living room sleepily, rubbing her eyes. "Sage, go back to bed," I snapped, but it was too late. Sage looked up, and her eyes met Max's, and his stupid smirking face. She froze, looking like a deer caught in headlights. Her heart began to beat faster, loud enough for me and Max to hear, and his grin only grew at the evidence that she was scared of him. "Hello, Sage," he mocked. "Did you miss me?" I thought Sage would retreat back inside her room, or cry, or do anything apart from lunge at Max, an expression of fury at her face. "You bastard!" She yelled, slapping and clawing at his face with her fingernails. Even Max was shocked. I almost scoffed, feeling proud that my sister hadn't lost her fighting spirit. "How dare you show your face here, you spinless piece of shit!" She screamed, lunging for him again after I pulled her back the first time.
