In the history of Luna ceremonies, probably none had been planned as fast as mine was. Only a week had passed since Cassian made the announcement, and everything was already set. The formalities of the ceremony would happen in the Silver Creek pack house, and the reception afterwards would be held at a point halfway between Silver Creek and Red Moon to make it easier for people from both packs to attend. The little bit of no man's land in between Silver Creek and Red Moon had been incorporated into both packs, making them seem like one very large pack with two names. That would change on the night of the ceremony though — which was tomorrow. I was with Saoirse and Lily, at what was supposed to be my dress fitting, but was currently a shopping session for both of them. "How does this look?" Lily asked, holding up a stunning black dress. "I like it," I replied. "It's black," Saoirse said. Lily looked confused. "And?"Saoirse blushed a little. "Well...I'm wearing black. We'd be

I'd never been to any human wedding ceremonies — or even been to the human world — but I assumed they would look a lot like this one. The hall was very much like a church, with pews lined up on each side, and a red-carpeted aisle in the middle. The pews were packed with Silver Creek members and the odd Red Moon family who wanted to curry favour. It was like a giant spotlight was on me, and for a moment, I forgot to breathe, and almost stumbled. Cassian's hold on my arm steadied me, and I felt his mind brush against mine in reassurance. We walked slowly, accompanied by soft strains of music that seemed to come from everywhere and nowhere at once. Every eye in the hall was on us — on me — and I felt the weight of their gazes like a physical thing. Cassian's hand was warm on my arm, grounding me. As we walked, I could feel the pride rolling off him in waves. His eyes kept cutting to me, drinking me in like he couldn't believe I was real. "You're doing beautifully," his voice wh

Once again, I was too late. Nothing could describe the feeling of arriving at the top floor after racing up more than a dozen flights of stairs, only to find Lily and Saoirse passed out in the middle of the hallway, with Iris nowhere to be seen. All that was left of her was her sweet scent, still lingering in the air. My heart pounding, I raced to the door to the Alpha suite, praying fervently. I yanked the door open and stormed inside. "IRIS!" I bellowed. In less than a second, I'd run through the whole space, and had found no sign of my mate."Alpha!" Max came running into the room too, his expression wild. "Where—""Fucking sound the alarm!" I snarled. "I want all warriors at the border on high alert. No one is to leave or enter this pack. Now!"He didn't need to be told twice. Max raced back in the direction he'd come, his eyes fogging over as he rushed to mindlink my orders to everyone concerned. She was gone. Iris was gone. Taken from right under my nose. "FUCK!" The so

That night felt like the longest in my life. My back ached as I remained tied to that hard chair, and since the basement didn't have good ventilation, it gradually became stuffy, and the stench of the substance on both my dress and the floor grew. Even if I wanted to, I couldn't fall asleep, so I spent majority of the night gagging and dry retching from pure disgust. Sometime in the early hours of the morning, I was overcome by fatigue and just couldn't hang on anymore. I fell asleep with my head hanging forward. Icy cold water slammed into me and I woke up gasping and spluttering as water got in my nose and ran down my body, soaking me thoroughly. There was an unfamiliar woman standing in front of me, holding a now empty bucket. She sneered. "Good. You're awake." From a tiny window by the ceiling, I could see that it was daybreak outside, so I couldn't have been asleep for more than a few hours. I studied the woman who had doused me with water, and couldn't sense any particular

I woke up bleeding, pain shooting through my arm. I gasped, seeing Julietta's sneering face in front of me the moment my face cleared. A dagger was in her hand, and I recoiled in shock, as I realized what she was doing. Her shirt sleeve was rolled up to her shoulder, and she roughly grabbed my bleeding arm and yanked upwards, setting it above her own shriveled arm. She gritted her teeth as my blood touched her skin and sizzled. Slowly, her real skin tone began to leak through the rot, and I felt lightheaded just from watching it. I was once again tied up in a chair, and when I looked around, I realized Julietta and I weren't the only ones in the room. An elderly man with a fairly powerful aura stood in a corner, watching. Alpha Hayden. He raised an eyebrow slightly, whether in acknowledgement, or in question, I didn't know. I shut my eyes as my blood continued to spill — this time, Althea wasn't present to speed up my healing process, so the wound remained open. After what fel
