A STRANGER’S TOUCH I didn’t stop him …the ache in my chest twists into something else , something darker , hotter . He glances at me , his jaw tight , his eyes asking a question I already know the answer to, I should’ve said no . But instead, I whisper “just drive”  . The music hums low from the speakers, the city lights streaking past the windshield like broken starts . I close my eyes , trying to breathe, but my heart won’t slow down. The silence between us isn’t empty ,  it’s thick, charged, like we’re both pretending not to feel the same pull. “We are here “he says, smiling at me, as the car finally slows, we’re in front of a house that looks nothing like mine,  tall gates, warm lights glowing through wide glass windows, and a long driveway lined with trees that shimmer under the streetlamps.
