Chapter Twenty One

Coral“Well, to put it bluntly, we want you to take down all werewolves.” Sebastian stated, as if it was a given that I would just engage in this type of action without question. I rolled my eyes, not even trying to stop myself from having a response. I had nothing to gain, or lose, from maintaining my composure. I didn’t care what these assholes thought about me. They clearly despised wolves, and I didn’t have any better feelings for them. “And you think that this injection,” I stated, motioning to my body, “is going to somehow just make me forget that I am a wolf? And forget about all those I care about?” I looked around the room, attempting to get a feel of some of the emotions that those in the room were exhibiting. I could feel some apprehension in a f

Chapter Twenty Two

DuncanWe were expecting to meet with Sarah, Luz, and Victor within the next hour or so. But when Jesse, the she wolf I had met at the bonfire, came to “visit” just a bit earlier, I didn’t stop her when she offered to help me feel better. She said I looked sad and that she knew how to help me. She had just left my office and I needed to get ready for the meeting to determine where we were going and when we would be leaving to finally get Coral. Anders approached, looking down the hall as Jesse walked away. Anders didn’t come to my packhouse often, but we had decided to meet at my packhouse today since it was closer to where Sarah, Luz, and Victor were coming from. I had insisted, Conan barking about leaving and that we needed to develop a plan as soon as possible. “Really?&r

Chapter Twenty Three

CoralI was not sure how long I slept. When I awoke, daylight met me. The sun was shining through the crack in the window shade. I realized I had slept the rest of the day away and it was morning. I sighed, rolling over. I wasn’t sure if I regretted what happened or not. It was a weird mix of emotions that I was not experienced working through. It made me wonder how Vivian could have sex with so many wolves without any regrets. The issue was the strange, unfamiliar feelings I was having for Elijah. I couldn’t help but wonder if it had anything to do with my birthday passing and coming into my full abilities as a red wolf. Even if I didn’t know how to use or control them, they were still there. But what was it with Elijah? I felt close to him without knowing a lot about him. I care

Chapter Twenty Four

Duncan “We are leaving,” Keith, my fellow guardian wolf said to me. Keith was always a very brooding character, but he also had a goofy side. Right now, however, he was all business. The look in his eyes was serious. He was ready, like I was, to bring Coral back home. I had been planning with Tobias regarding strategies for protection. There was a lot of uncertainty with this mission to get Coral. Underestimating our enemy, however, was not an option right now. We need to have warriors ready at both packs, and the compound, in case anything happened while we were gone. It was risky to have both Alphas leaving their packs. However, it made sense to leave the former Alphas back at the packhouses for protection. We even enlisted the help of a neighboring pack for some additional protection

Chapter Twenty Five

Coral“Coral! You need to get up!” Elijah’s voice rang out through the den. I had fallen asleep, spending the night on the couch, my book on the floor. As my eyes adjusted, I could see that it was barely morning. The sun was just starting to come up, and it was mostly still dark out. There was a sense of urgency in Elijah’s voice that I had just now processed. Suddenly my heart rate increased as I could sense Elijah’s emotions. He was worried. “What is going on?” I asked as I stood up, looking around the room. He took my hand and pulled me out of the den, towards the back of the house. I nearly stumbled as he was pulling me so quickly. “Elijah! Stop! What is going on?” I tried to pull my hand away as we approached the back door, but Elijah was holding

Chapter Twenty Six

CoralI shifted back and entered my home, heading towards my bedroom to get dressed. I was looking forward to my own clothes. As I entered my bedroom, the scent of Duncan hit me and nearly knocked me over. I was feeling something strange, but I couldn’t quite identify what it was. My head felt a little light and dizzy. I shook my head, attempting to get rid of the feeling. Probably that stupid lavender cookie. I said to myself. I knew that there were a few different things that were in that cookie, so I was not surprised to be feeling this way. “Coral? Sarah and I will be over in ten minutes if that works for you.” Raina said through the mindlink. I confirmed that it was okay and decided that I wanted to jump in the shower quickly bef

Chapter Twenty Seven

DuncanCoral was back. I knew as soon as she made it back into our territory. I should be finding her and talking to her, but I just couldn’t do it, at least not right now. I had every intention of talking to her as soon as she got back, but once she was back, I hesitated. I had been running around the compound, around Coral’s house, all around the grounds. Conan wanted me to go find Coral so we could talk. Presently, I was standing probably 100 yards from her front door. The wind was calm and I was back within the trees.Talia had just entered Coral's house. I had been waiting outside, hoping for a chance to go talk to Coral. I could feel her emotions through the guardian bond. It wasn’t a very strong feeling that the guardian wolves could feel, but it allowed us to understand and respond to our red wolf’s needs. Coral was feeling anxious right now. It w

Chapter Twenty Eight

CoralI didn’t deserve to have Duncan as a mate. I had purposefully had sex with someone to hurt him. He deserved better. As the words to reject him started to come out of my mouth, Ivy begged me not to say them. She was yelling in my head for me to stop, but I felt like I had no choice. I had messed up so much in so many ways, and he deserved a better mate. I didn’t want to reject Duncan, but it felt like it was the only thing I could do. He should have a mate who is always considering him, not having sex with someone to get back at him; to make him feel it. The guilt and anguish was overwhelming. I had not expected my mate to be Duncan. I don’t know why that mattered so much to me, but it did. I think the reason that it mattered was because I had wanted it to be Duncan. He was the only one that I hoped it would be.

Chapter Twenty Nine

Duncan I took Coral’s hand as we left her house and headed towards the Compound. I was trying to remain calm for Coral, but the truth was, I was worried. Aside from some skirmishes that involved vampires, we had never been in a war with them. Since Callan’s run in with the vampires during a failed attempt to take Raina all those years ago, we had trained diligently for a fight with vampires. But still, the threat remained unclear. We had a lot of intel, but having not ever done a significant battle with them, I felt like we were at a disadvantage. I could only hope that Elijah had the ability to fill in some of the gaps. Coral and I walked in silence to the compound. I could tell that she was deep in thought. I rubbed my thumb over her fingers, hoping to provide some comfort to her. At any other time, we would be having a Luna ceremony tonight. Instead, we were preparing for war. Coral sighed and I could feel her thoughts. “You know that we are going to have to be there for thi

Chapter Thirty

CoralThe guardian wolves went off to discuss strategies for protecting the red wolves. Looking around at the red wolves, the atmosphere in the room felt almost electric. It wasn’t like we were humming, but it felt like there was this electricity that was going between each of us.Raina stepped forward, “I’ve asked my daughter, Romy, to come over. She has studied the red wolves and their history extensively, and has the best knowledge as to what has been done in the past. I don’t know if there’s ever been a time where the red wolves have all worked together to fight like this.“ Raina turned and looked out the window, playing with her hair. I looked over at Vivian and Talia, who were sitting next to me. Along with my sister, Harley, these two had become my family; actually all of the red wolves had become my family. There was this innate need to protect my family. I was not going to let these vampires, or any other threat, hurt my family. It was not just my family, but all of wolves
