I ran. Behind me, are snarling. Snapping jaws. Paws pounding the ground, getting closer. Finn's scream still rang in my ears, the way it just cut off, and I couldn't let myself think about what that meant or I'd break. So I ran. Trees blurred past me. Rocks, branches, thorns tearing at my fur. Everything became something to dodge or jump over. My small size helped. When the rogues tried to squeeze through a gap between two one of them crashed into the stone and yelped. Good. I hoped it broke something. My chest burned but I pushed harder. The rogues were right behind me, close enough that I could smell them. Wet fur and blood and something rotten. The ground dropped away under my paws and I almost went tumbling. Water.
