Ezekiel pulled up outside Lynn's building at eight fourteen. The rain had followed them most of the way across the city, hitting the windscreen. He didn't turn on the music so Lynn had to fill the silence with conversation as regards industry things, a dinner she'd been invited to, a mutual friend who had recently done something worth discussing. He never said a word or even tried to contribute. There was no need. He lacked interest in whatever she was saying. Lynn didn't mind. As long as he was right here with her. He put the car in park and Lynn didn't move. He waited for her to step out but she just sat still there. Outside, the rain tapped lightly against the roof. The building's entrance lights were on, casting a pale rectangle across the wet pavement. "You're home." He mentioned, in case she didn't notice. "I know."
