Lucille’s pov Marcella Solis and Patrick Ortega. They had completely stolen the limelight. I glanced to my side, taking note of my mother's reaction. As she walked up to me, her expression was filled with pure bitterness. “Let’s find a seat,” she muttered, her eyes still locked onto the two of them. I followed her instructions silently. My gaze drifted back to Ella’s dress, and a sudden sense of familiarity struck me. The texture, the sleek cut… it looked exactly like something I had come into contact with before. A sharp nudge from my mother broke my train of thought. “Are you okay?” she asked, eyebrow raised. “Yeah… yeah, I'm fine.” “I’ve been talking to you and you haven't heard a single word I said,” she pointed out, annoyed. “I’m sorry. I was just caught up thinking about something.” “Well, stop thinking and bring your spark back to this room,” she instructed, taking a slow sip of her wine as she glared back toward the center of the ballroom. “Those two are completely st

Lucille’s pov My entire body ached that night. Being trapped in the car with my mother felt like torture. She wouldn't stop blabbing, complaining about how I had allowed them to steal the spotlight. But the spotlight was the last thing on my mind, they could have it for all I cared. What truly tore me apart was the way he held her. The way his fingers tangled with hers, how they walked side by side, taking interviews, his hand resting intimately on her waist as he leaned in for a kiss. They played the role of the perfect, doting couple far too well. I wanted to believe it was all just an act. But was it? God, I was losing my mind. A restless, physical irritation clawed at my skin, leaving me with an urge to reach out, grab something, and smash it against a hard floor. Seeing something shatter felt like the only thing that could soothe the agonizing pain in my heart. “Can you believe Patrick?!” my mother yelled, her voice piercing the silence of the drive home. “Who does he think

Marcella’s pov I had to live up to everyone’s expectations. I had to play the part of the doting, perfect girlfriend to Patrick Ortega. The now CEO of NO Dynasty. My fate was already sealed. I wanted to fight it, to find a way out, but how could I? This was my life now. The silence inside the car was suffocating as we drove home after the event that night. "Can you just say what you’re thinking already?" Patrick’s voice shattered the quiet. I looked over at him, my eyes cold. I had a million things I wanted to scream at him, but only one question actually mattered. "Why did you do that?" I asked. "Do what?" he replied, playing dumb with a flawless innocence. I took a deep, steadying breath before asking again. "Why did you insist on hosting the graduating ball this year?" I demanded, staring at him, hoping for a piece of honesty. He let out a low, amused chuckle. "Let’s just say... I’m about to call it a win" He glanced at me, a mischievous smirk playing on his lips. "What

Lucille’s pov“Yes...” her voice was low at first and there were murmurs.“yes…..yes I’ll marry you,” she said this time louder and more confident. She delivered the words with a smile I couldn’t quite decipher, a smile masked in a tangle of conflicting emotions. My heart dropped to my stomach. It felt like the final blow of a battle that had already been lost. The crowd erupted into cheers and applause. I could only stand frozen in my corner, staring at the couples while a brutal, unfamiliar pain ripped through my chest. I gripped the stem of my glass so tightly I thought the crystal would shatter right in my hand. So, it had finally happened. Marcella was officially Patrick’s bride to be, exactly as he had warned me she would be.I felt miserable, hollowed out from the inside. Everyone swarmed the newly engaged couple, showering them with hugs, kisses, and congratulations for their good news. Meanwhile, my mother and I remained anchored to our corner, forced to witness the agonizin

Lucille’s pov There stood the bride to be. My very own Marcella. But why would I even call her that anymore? She was a past lover and the fiancée of another man. Life really had a cruel way of playing tricks. She stared back at me, frozen in the doorway. I wanted to act like I hadn’t seen her, but who was I kidding? It would be far too awkward. I didn't even know how to react if I should offer a fake congratulations or let my anger boil over. I was still weighing my options when my emotions completely overrode my brain, pushing the words out of my mouth. “Hello, Mrs. Ortega... Oh, I’m sorry. Soon to be Mrs. Ortega.” I raised a hand in a mock apology, waving it with forced carelessness. I knew I was a bit tipsy from much drinking but I was still conscious of my actions. Her neutral expression soured into bitterness. She marched toward me, her eyes flashing with anger. “Don’t give me that bullshit, Lucille. If you’re going to congratulate me, at least try to make it sound real.”
