~ ROWAN’S POV ~ The first thing I felt was the warmth. It wasn’t the cold, biting chill of the basement floor or the harsh, clinical air of the Knox mansion. It was a thick, heavy heat that wrapped around me like a cocoon. I shifted my legs, expecting to hear the clink of silver chains, but there was nothing. No weight on my wrists. No burning metal against my skin. I opened my eyes slowly. The ceiling above me wasn’t made of stone. It was dark, polished wood. The room was dim, lit only by the soft orange glow of a fireplace crackling in the corner. I turned my head, wincing as a sharp sting shot through my side. "Easy now," a voice said. It was deep, like velvet, but it didn't have the jagged edge of Julian’s bark or the heavy weight of Marcus’s authority. "You’re safe, Rowan." I bolted upright, or at least I tried to.
