Rowan’s POV The smell of cedar and rain usually calmed me, but now it smelled like death. My head throbbed, a dull ache that pulsed behind my eyes. Every time I tried to move, the world tilted and spun. I blinked, with my eyelashes heavy, trying to clear the thick haze wrapped around my brain.I was in the center of the cabin's main room, but I wasn't on the soft furs of the sofa anymore. My arms were pulled back, my wrists stinging as rough leather straps dug into my skin. I tried to kick out, but my ankles were bolted to the legs of a heavy, reinforced wooden chair."Don't struggle, Rowan," a voice said. It was smooth, melodic, and entirely too calm. "The more you fight the sedative, the more your head will hurt. Just breathe."I looked up. Cassian was standing by a small side table, his back to me. He looked exactly the same as he had for the past week—expensive sweater, perfectly styled hair, a face that screamed kindness. But his movements were different now. They were precise a

~ ROWAN’S POV ~The air was so thick with the scent of blood that I could barely breathe. I sat trapped in that reinforced chair, my wrists raw from pulling against the leather straps. "I'll fucking kill you!" Julian roared and threw himself at Cassian. The sound of their bodies colliding was like a car crash. Wood splintered and flew through the air as they smashed into a side table. Cassian was fast, but Julian was like a man possessed. He swung a heavy fist, catching Cassian right in the jaw.Cassian stumbled back, spitting blood, but Marcus was already there.Marcus grabbed Cassian from behind and slammed him face-first into the log wall. The entire cabin shook. Dust fell from the ceiling, coating my hair and the medical tools Cassian had laid out to ruin me."You touched her," Marcus hissed, his voice a low, vibrating growl. "You touched what is ours."Cassian laughed, a wet, choking sound. "She came to me! She begged for me to save her from you monsters!"Julian let out a sound

Rowan’s POV The wind whipped against my face, but I couldn't feel the cold. I couldn’t feel anything. My body was a lead weight in Julian’s arms as he marched toward the Knox mansion. Marcus walked right beside him, his blue eyes scanning the tree line like he expected an army to jump out. The mansion didn't look like the home I’d tried to escape anymore. It looked like a tomb. As we crossed the threshold, the heavy oak doors thudded shut behind us. The sound echoed through the foyer, vibrating in my chest. "Get the fuck out of the way!" Julian roared. The servants, who usually whispered and snickered when I walked by, scrambled. They tripped over their own feet to get out of the way. I saw one of Sabrina's favorite maids—the one who had helped hold me down in the cellar—turn pale as a sheet. She pressed her back against the wall, her eyes wide with terror. Julian didn't even look at her. His grip on me tightened, his fingers digging into my skin. He was shaking with a rage so

Rowan’s POV The rain drummed a steady, rhythmic beat against the reinforced glass of the master suite, matching the dull throb in my head. I didn’t move from the armchair by the window. I couldn't. Every time I closed my eyes, I saw Cassian’s face—that fake, gentle smile twisting into something demonic as he held that silver-laced needle. My skin still felt crawled, like his touch was a stain I couldn't wash off. The heavy oak door creaked open. I didn't turn around. I knew the scent. Cedarwood and rain. Marcus. He didn't bark an order for me to look at him. He didn't demand I eat the tray of food sitting cold on the dresser. Instead, I heard the heavy thud of something being placed on the coffee table near me. I cut my eyes toward the sound. It wasn't food. It was a stack of books. Old ones, new ones, and a few leather-bound journals with blank, creamy pages. Marcus stood there, his massive frame casting a long shadow across the rug. "I remembered you mentioned the library

Rowan’s POV The rain started slamming against the windows like it wanted to break in. I sat on the edge of the big bed in the master suite, knees pulled up to my chest, trying to read the same page of the book Marcus left me earlier. The words blurred. My head still spun from the library earlier—Julian snapping at Marcus, Marcus stepping between us like he’d fight his own twin for me. I didn’t know what the hell to think anymore. Then the first crack of thunder hit.BOOM.I jumped so hard the book flew out of my hands. My chest tightened. It sounded exactly like the thunder that night in Cassian’s cabin. The same low rumble, the same sharp snap right after. My breathing picked up fast. Short. I pressed a hand to my throat like that would stop it.“Shit… not now,” I whispered. My voice shook.Another boom. Louder. Closer. Lightning flashed white across the room and I saw it all again—Cassian’s face twisting from sweet to ugly, the syringe in his hand, the way he smiled while he strapp
