ALEXANDER~•~I hated that she was playing dumb.I stared at her, waiting for her to finally confess what I wanted to hear. Even if she didn’t want to admit it, she could at least explain the situation that led to it. She could lie about it and reassure me that it was just a misunderstanding. The fact that she was pretending everything was okay was even worse. She scrunched her eyebrows the way she usually did whenever she was confused. I wasn’t sure why she was confused as my question was pretty straightforward. “You’re angry at me because you believe I’m hiding a secret from you?” She questioned. “I don’t have any secrets, Alex.”My tongue poked the inside of my cheek. She was still playing dumb. I was about to speak when her eyes suddenly widened. “Oh! I do have something I’m hiding from you.”My heart stopped beating for a second. While I wanted her to admit it, I also didn’t want it to be true.I watched her as she turned around and dropped one of her suitcases on the ground. I

CHARLOTTE~•~I scoffed at her question. She was going to say anything to get under my skin and I’d be doing myself a disservice by standing there and listening to whatever bullshit she had to spew.“Then it’s too bad he married me and doesn’t even look at you.” I didn’t wait to hear her response before I walked out of the house.I took in a deep breath after the door closed behind me. On a regular day, her words wouldn’t get to me. Couldn’t. But with the way things were with Alexander… I wasn’t that confident.I opened the driver's door of my car and got in. I drove around the city for a while before I finally went back home. When I got home, I saw that Alex’s car was in front of the house.Would we finally have time to talk things through?I rushed inside and found him in our bedroom. He was taking off his shirt when I came in. He turned around to face me, the buttons of his shirt already undone. “Where are you coming from?”I blinked in surprise at his accusatory tone. “I should be

CHARLOTTE~•~My mouth parted, but no words came out.I couldn’t believe what Alexander was asking of me. I’d been trying hard to get into acting. I finally got the opportunity to work with one of the most talented directors and he wanted me to turn it down.I understood that he was mad and a little bit insecure about the pictures he saw, but he was asking me to give up my career to prove that I wasn’t lying. He was so convinced I cheated on him. Was turning down the gig going to erase his doubts?“Alex–““Don’t,” he stepped back. “Don’t Alex me. Me or Dave?”I closed my eyes briefly. It wasn’t about him or Dave. It was my marriage or my career. How did he manage to reduce it to him or Dave? I had nothing to do with Dave. I’d met him only three or four times. I’d never found him attractive. I’d never looked at him in a way that could be disrespectful to my marriage, but somehow, he was the reason I was in this mess.“Is that such a hard decision to make, Charlotte?”“You’re asking me

CHARLOTTE~•~Alexander didn’t come home, but I didn’t want to see him anyway. He spent the next two nights at Harvey’s place. I never called to see how he was doing. He never called me either. He only came home on Thanksgiving morning. We got dressed separately and didn’t speak a word to each other as we got ready to go to my parents’ home.I stared at him as he walked past me in the kitchen. I wanted to know our plans for the day, but I also didn’t want to be the first to speak to him. Since we started dating, we made our own plans after Thanksgiving dinner. I knew that was off the table now, but I also wanted to know whether or not we were picking up his parents.I sucked on my teeth. I didn’t want to speak to him. I really didn’t. He was an asshole who couldn’t tell real pictures from fake ones, who couldn’t answer when I asked him if he had anything to do with the pictures, but I was also too curious to stay quiet.“Are we picking up your parents or are they going there on their

CHARLOTTE~•~I watched Alex as he walked back into the kitchen, then I narrowed my eyes at Briella. “What were you talking about?” “Oh, you heard him,” she smiled. “Nothing at all.”She didn’t wait for me to respond before she also walked away, a certain sway in her steps. My fist clenched around the phone. The sight of two of them together unsettled me. Briella didn’t try to hide the fact that she was jealous of my marriage. She didn’t bother to be discreet about the fact that she wanted what I had, including my husband. Why were they together? Why was he with her phone? Were they hiding things from me? I was very much concerned.I’d wondered if Alexander had found a new woman which was why he wanted to divorce me, but I’d rather it be anyone than Briella. I wouldn’t be able to handle it’sGod, I sounded pathetic saying that.I looked down at my phone. I’d come outside to answer a call, but I forgot about it as soon as I saw Alexander and Briella together. My phone started ringing
