Day 25The next day, I stood at my balcony, staring out at the waves when I heard Landon opening his own balcony door. I didn’t know what got into me but I quickly ducked, hiding from him.I pressed my fingertips to my head, wondering why I needed to hide. This was the same person I’d sworn to make him look at me again. But then, wasn’t I the one who told him to break it off. So why was I the one affected the most? Why do I need him to speak to me so bad, again. Damn it. I didn’t realize how heartless I was when I made the plan yesterday. “Alpha.” I heard a familiar voice and I instantly knew who it was. Miles. His right hand man. What was he doing here?“We’ve checked everything and traced everyone who has ever stepped foot on this ship and there’s no one with that man’s reputation. Perhaps, our direction was wrong in the first place.” Miles said and there was silence for a few seconds before Landon spoke. “It might seem that way right now but Thomas wouldn’t have been able to

“Is it just me or are you getting more and more beautiful.” Harold teased as he joined us. I shook my head, my lips stretching. “We take good care of her.” Leo chimed in, “Of course she is going to look beautiful.”“It’s not like you buy me beauty products.”“But we are fattening you up. See, I always order for the best thing available in the menu for you.”“That’s right. You look plump too.” Harold added and I rolled my eyes. “So are you saying I’m getting more beautiful or I’m getting fatter?”Leo and Harold went quiet, not daring to answer. “Did you hear, Marcus is hosting a get together with a few selected people. Close friends I hear.” Harold told us. I frowned, as Leo and I exchanged a look “I didn’t hear that.”“The invitations will arrive soon.” Harold said and I realized he was usually the first to know what was happening in the ship. “I was thinking since you and Landon are no longer a thing at the moment, how about you go with me?”“No way.” Leo blocked him from view,

“Nara, are you okay?” Leo asked me when he found me again, holding all the snacks we bought that we were going to take to Emily. “You look pale.” He added and I touched my warm face. I was anxious. “I’m fine.” I lied and Leo looked at me like he didn’t believe me but that was the least I could be worried about right now.The way Dina spoke, I couldn’t get it out of my mind. It didn’t entirely feel like she was giving me that warning so I wouldn’t get in Landon’s way. It was almost like she feared for my life.It was a laughable thought. Dina obviously hated me. She would’ve announced I was human to everyone if she didn’t think she could make me suffer a more terrible fate. That was what she said. But what if it was a bluff because she couldn’t imagine showing me any kindness?I mean, your enemies definitely won’t give you heads up if they see you’re about to be attacked. But Dina did, even though it was in a round about way. There was something more and I have to find out what it is

Marcus stepped closer to me, wearing a delighted grin as he stared at me lustfully. His eyes raked down my body then he caught my gaze again and said, “Consider it a favor to a former friend.”“A favour.” I frowned, “Who is it?”“Be patient, Nara. I’m sure you’ll find out soon.”I stepped in front of him to block his way. “If you’re helping him, you can as well help him to the end. What can a girl like me do anyway?” I stepped closer to him and added in a whisper, “A weak human girl. All I seek is the truth.”“Then the truth will come to you.” He grinned again, “Nara, they say curiously kills the cat so I’m going to have to make you patient for this one.”I scoffed, “This must be fun to you.”“Entertainment like this is hard to come by.”“Entertainment?” I cocked a brow, looking at him like he was unbelievable. “Whoever the culprit is, murdered an innocent girl. He is worse than an animal. He’s a fucking coward and you protecting him makes you one as well.”Marcus’s eyes flashed with

Nara’s pov. When I opened my eyes again, the chaos around me made me want to bang my aching head into a wall. The mechanic sound of an engine filled the whole space and it was so fucking hot, I could feel my skin peeling off. My vision cleared slowly, and as I sat up, I caught sight of the several tubes and pipes surrounding me.Where was I?I think I already knew the answer to that question but I just wouldn’t believe it until my thoughts were clearer and I almost fell when I thought for a moment that I had the luxury to move. I was high up, in a cramped space where the only solid thing under me were the several connected pipes I sat on. One wrong move and I’d fall to my doom. This was the engine room. The same place I hid Melody except this time, it was way hotter than I imagined.Sweat rolled off my skin as if I’d just taken a bath. I was about to tear off my shirt when I remembered I’d been kidnapped. That was right. I had been drugged, and the last thing I remembered was Harol
