Elara’s POVThe heavy iron door creaked shut behind me, sealing the outside world away. The room was dark and windowless, lit only by a thin sliver of moonlight slipping through a small barred opening high on the far wall. The air felt thick and cold, heavy with the scent of old stone and something sharper, like ozone after a storm. My footsteps echoed softly on the bare floor as I stepped further inside.Thick black chains lay scattered across the center of the room. They were massive, the links thick and heavy, some still attached to bolts set deep into the stone walls and floor. Broken ends glinted faintly in the dim light. I recognized them immediately. These were the same chains Lucian had worn the night he saved me from the rogues. The night the beast had emerged and claimed me as its own.I knelt slowly, ignoring the dull ache in my leg, and reached out. My fingers brushed one of the shattered links. The metal was unnaturally cold, almost icy, even in the warm palace air.A vis

Elara’s POVI felt hurt and bad that he could get angry like that even after our morning encounter. The teasing, the laughter, the way he had stayed with me through the nightmare — I thought things had changed between us. But the moment I stepped into that room, his anger returned full force, sharp and cold, as if the bond we shared meant nothing. As if I meant nothing.I woke up the next morning feeling lighter. The sunlight streamed through the tall windows, warming my face. I sat up and stretched, dressed quickly and stepped out into the corridor, determined to move forward.I noticed Dana near the main gates. She was preparing for a hunt with a group of warriors, checking weapons and giving quiet orders. Their voices carried on the morning air, low and focused.I walked over, my steps steady. “Dana, wait.”She turned, eyebrows raised. “Elara. You should be resting.”“I want to join you,” I said. “Please. Let me come hunting with you and the warriors.”Dana shook her head. “The kin

Elara’s POVThe cage bars dug into my back as I pressed myself against them. The metal was cold and rough, smelling of rust and something sour that made my stomach turn. I wrapped my arms around my knees and tried to breathe slow. My heart hammered so loud I could hear it in my ears. This was worse than the rogue attack. At least then I had the forest and the chance to run. Here there was nothing but iron bars and the dark shapes moving outside them.I swallowed hard and lifted my chin. “Hey… hey!”My voice cracked, but I kept going. “What do you want with me? My mate is the Lycan King. You better let me go right now or he’ll tear this whole place apart.”One of the Shadow Reavers stepped closer. Its red eyes glowed in the dim light. The creature tilted its head, black fur matted with dirt, and let out a low chuckle that sounded like rocks grinding together.“Your mate?” it rasped. “The Lycan King? That’s a good one. You smell like fear and flowers, not power. Nice try, little human.”

Lucian’s POVI stormed through the forest like the ground itself owed me answers. My boots crushed leaves and snapped twigs, but I barely heard them. My mind kept replaying the empty room, the missing scent, the way my chest had tightened when Dana reported Elara gone. I had knocked on her door until my knuckles ached. Nothing. No heartbeat. No trace of moonflowers and wild honey that always clung to her. She was not sulking. She was missing. The same feeling from that night with the rogues slammed into me again. The night I had heard her scream from miles away. The night the beast had torn free without me asking.Only this time the beast stayed quiet. No full moon. No chains snapping. Just me. All me. My legs moving faster, my hands clenching into fists, my lungs burning as I pushed harder. The mate bond was supposed to be severed. She had rejected me. I had accepted. So why did every cell in my body still pull toward her like a compass?I caught the first faint thread of her scent o

Darius’s POVThe Lycan palace gates swung open with a low groan that sounded too much like a warning.I rode in on my black stallion, Liora beside me on a white mare that matched her gown. The air here felt heavier, thicker, like the forest itself remembered old grudges. Lucian and Kylan stood at the top of the wide stone steps, waiting. Once upon a time the three of us would have laughed and clapped each other on the back. Now the space between us felt sharp enough to cut.I dismounted first and handed the reins to a waiting groom. “Lucian. Kylan. We were just passing through the borderlands…you know horseback riding in this weather is always pleasurable and I thought, why not stop by and say hello to old friends?”Lucian’s golden eyes stayed flat. “Friends,” he repeated, voice cool. “That word tastes different coming from you these days, Darius.”Kylan didn’t smile. He just folded his arms and watched me like I might pull a knife at any second.I forced a laugh. “Come on. We grew up
