All Chapters of The Alphas Broken Mate: Chapter 21 - Chapter 30

IRISThe day dragged on until the sky darkened, purple and ash dusk rays painting my wall. It’s been hours since Timothy went back. What was going on?I should probably check on him.No.I told him I would stay put until he gets answers. I planned to wait. I really did. But then the eery stillness in the air came like a fever. My wolf whined, hitting against my chest.A howl echoed.Outside.Far outside. Then another.I pushed off my bed, bolting to the balcony and throwing the doors open. Something was wrong.I let my eyes flutter close, listening closely. Focus Iris. Block out the noise. The whispers of the trees watered down, the wind quietened. I focused on the unnatural, going past the creaking of insects and chittering of squirrels.A branch snapped. My ears perked. Then footsteps followed. Slow. Too slow to be scouts. South. My eyes flew open, breath rushing back in.“Someone was at the border.” I whispered to myself as a shiver ran through me.It didn’t sound like anyone was

IRISThe chaos outside was muffled by the walls of the room. My knee wouldn’t stop moving, my pulse pounding, a thousand thoughts infiltrating my mind all at once. We’re under attack. But none of the boys seemed as surprised or furious as they usually were. They knew something and, as always, were keeping them from me. Rage slithered up my spine as my head snapped to Ryker. He’d been standing in front of the door since we got here, his eyes hadn’t left the door either. He’d tell me if I asked… I think.Ryker was looking for my approval right now. He wouldn’t want to ruin that.“We can’t just sit here and do nothing.” I said finally, pushing off my seat.Ryker's gaze didn’t move but his jaw ticked once. “We’ll go when Kade says it’s safe.”I scoffed, folding my arms across my chest. “I didn’t realize an alpha took orders.”“Nice try, Iris.” He says dryly. “…but your ass is staying put until I’m certain that you’re not going to get your head blown off clean from your shoulders.”I fough

IRISWe’d moved this conversation to my room, mostly because I didn’t want anyone else to listen in. The house was empty, as usual but that didn’t stop me from being overly cautious. But the change of scenery didn’t dilute the tension. It hung low in the air between Ash and I, threatening to snap at any second. I leaned forward to the edge of my bed, meeting his intense gaze with a blank one. He was hiding something. Underneath that annoyingly calm expression, I knew he was.“What happened the night before?” I asked calmly. The wooden floor creaked beneath his boots as he shifted his weight.“I already told you.” His voice stayed calm. “I found you in the woods and-““Brought me back to your room,” I completed with a huffed breath. “Nursed me back to health. Yeah. You said that already. “What I don’t remember is everything before it.”“I don’t remember how I got there. I don’t remember why my clothes were covered in blood. I don’t remember why it feels like someone ripped pieces out

ASH“Do you genuinely expect me to believe that you have no idea where you came from?”Kade’s shed was smaller than I remembered… or maybe it had shrunken over the years we used to sneak here when we were younger. Unease rolled off me in waves, the familiar scent of fresh soil mixed with pine hanging in the air.The scrawny girl lifted her chin, fire burning in her odd violet eyes. Just like-I forced the thought down before it could fully form, but wasn’t quick enough to stop my chest from constricting.“I already told you,” she huffed. “I woke up in this weird place that looks straight out of a nineties movie with even weirder people- erm-“ she snorted. “Werewolves.”Kade who had been watching in silence all this while finally pushed off the wall, jaw tightening. “This isn’t a joke.”“I know, I know.” The girl said quickly. “It’s just… really abstract.”“You’re a human.” Ryker cut in sharply like he had better things to do than interrogate the strange girl who just happened to stumb

IRISI accepted Selene’s offer.Of course I did. I didn’t exactly have a line of options waiting for me. So what if I agreed to team up with an ancient being who I knew absolutely nothing about? That was how steep my choices were. And besides, I had a gnawing feeling that whatever was going on in the pack, was connected to Katrina’s murder. Yes, I know, a very kind stretch but the feeling wouldn’t go away.My conscience would never let me ignore it.I had two options.Stay clueless and let Kade and the others handle it… like they had claimed they’ve been doing since the beginning of time. Or take matters into my hand. The choice was clear.I pulled out my journal from the top drawer, sinking into my bed as I scribbled furiously. The known variables.Magic stones. Barriers. Attacks. Hybrids? Inconclusive. But then the image flashed in my head again. The one from that night that refused to settle. The creature. I’d never seen anything like that. It had to be a hybrid. All I needed now
