Chapter 11Elara’s PovThe pharmacy was already crowded when we arrived. Voices overlapped, heavy with excitement. With the election approaching, every candidate was trying to outdo the other.I stepped out beside Cassian, my hand resting lightly in his. His grip tightened for a brief second.“Stay close,” he murmured. “And smile.” He looked away. Everything in me wanted to pull away from his grip, but I couldn't. That would break our agreement. I flashed a small smile to the people and waved at them as the perfect Luna. The sign above the building gleamed under the daylight.SERIS.This was the largest pharmacy in the province and it stood at the center of the commercial district in the general territory. Placed where everyone could see.I slowed at the entrance. Cassian never did anything quietly when it came to influence. Especially not this… generosity packaged as influence.Inside the building, the air was different and packed with nobles. And at the center of it, Seris stood, s

Chapter 13Elara's Pov“What do we do with the body?" That was the first thing I heard when I came to. I was in a moving vehicle, I could tell from the hum beneath me.I tried to open my eyes, but they wouldn't open. They were heavy, like someone poured lead into them lids of mine. When I tried to move my arms, it was tied. My legs were also strapped to the chair and then I knew I had been kidnapped."Check her again." A male voice sounded. Rough and dangerous."What for? Henry? The Luna is out cold, and not like she could escape us now." Another voice said. But this voice was younger and sounded really familiar. I kept my breathing slow as they spoke. They couldn't know I was awake, till I escaped. "The boss said no mistakes. Check her pulse Josh." And soon, there were footsteps. The floor of the vehicle vibrated. I peeked and I was in a cargo van, with no windows. Just the two front seats and the back where I was. And very soon, a hand grabbed my chin. I remained cool, forcing mys

Chapter 15Cassian's Pov The ride from the pharmacist was a very quiet one and tensed. Seris had stopped crying ten minutes ago. Now she just stared out the window, arms crossed, lips pressed thin. I didn't care.My mind was elsewhere. On her. Elara. My Luna. Who exactly was she? A woman who spoke French, a rare language for humans. She had corrected Seris's knowledge on medicines in front of the media. Like she owned the pharmacist herself. For three years I had always believed she was just a… just a pretty face who signed a contract because she didn't have a life to live. But how wrong I was with this current development. I called Adrian.“How's the Luna doing? Had she left the location?" There was a brief pause and my face changed slightly. "What did you say mother asked you to do? Why would you leave her unsupervised?” I listened as he spoke."That's alright. As long as the Luna is safe."I ran my hand through my hair. Why was I suddenly thinking about her? I couldn't do any

Chapter 17Elara's PovThe sound of water dripping on stone pulled me back to reality.Somewhere in the distance, a dog barked. My body was wet, lying in something damp and cold. A swamp. Or a ditch. I didn't know where I was.My hands found my face. It was wet with water or was it blood? I couldn't tell. Panic filled my chest.I crawled out of the wreckage on my elbows. My left leg was stiff. I couldn't walk. Something warm and wet ran down my thigh. For a moment, my blood stopped.No. No, no, no.Not the baby. Please. Not the baby. The sky was pitch dark with no stars or moon.Suddenly, a hand grabbed my hair."Where are you going, Luna? You said I could have a taste of your body." Josh. That voice belonged to Josh. The clouds shifted. Moonlight flashed on him. Half of his face was gone. His skin was hanging loose now.One eye was blood red, bulging from its socket. He was still alive. How was he still alive?"You killed me." His voice gurgled, wet and broken. "You hear that? I'm de

Chapter 19Elara's PovSarah fell to her knees with a gasp."Sarah!" I caught her before she hit the ground. Her eyes were wide and confused. She looked down at the arrow, then at me."What is going on?""Don't move." My hands pressed against her wound. Warm blood slipped through my fingers. "Someone help! Help please.!"And then I heard footsteps, from the woods. The men were in dark clothes, with masks covering their faces."What is going on?" I muttered. The children were quiet, staring in shock and suddenly one of the villagers yelled."Intruders…"Immediately he did, gunfire started. I ducked and pulled Sarah behind the cottage wall."Who are they?" Sarah gasped. Blood dripped from her mouth."I don't know." My voice shook. I lied, because, I knew exactly who they were. The way they moved. It was clear. But what were they doing here? They only fought when they desperately wanted something. The shadow pack doesn't wage wars for nothing. My blood went cold. The ring glowed in Sarah
