CHAPTER: 21. RIVEN HAS UNLEASHED.

EZRA'S POV'It's been three fucking days and I am still here!' I mumbled to myself, staring at the ceiling. I didn't even have access to a watch and a window to know what time of the day it was. I was almost at the edge of madness. I didn't know what exactly was keeping me sane at this point. Riven had come three times during each day to keep me company which I didn't ask for. Just while I was cursing him out in my heart, the door opened and he stepped in. 'Speak of the devil.' I muttered, ignoring that he could hear it, all thanks to his sharp ears. He came on carrying a bag that smelled like something warm and looked at me. "You know I heard that, right? Good evening to you too." He said. "Let me go." "You've been saying that for a while now. Aren't you tired?" "Riven, I don't think you understand. I need to see Cole. He doesn't know where I am, he's probably panicking...he..." "He's fine." "You don't know that." "Trust me, I know enoug

CHAPTER: 22. A FIGHT FOR EZRA'S LIFE.

CAIUS'S POV "This is it." I said, pointing at a four floored building. It looked so old modern, almost like it was designed to be forgotten. I looked at my phone, at the tracker sitting steady and unmoving on the screen and then back at the building. "You are certain, right?" Dorian asked me and I nodded. "The signal hasn't moved for a while." I put my phone in my pocket. "This is where he's been." "Yeah, he is right. That's Riven's car." We all looked towards the angle. It was parked two spaces down and I sighed. This was about to get bloody if it turned out to be true. ▪︎▪︎▪︎ABOUT TWO DAYS AGO.Dorian had come to my room without knocking, which was standard. I had been in the middle of getting dressed after a shower when he suddenly barged in. "I need you to find something." He announced. I pulled my shirt on and turned around. "Have you heard of knocking?" "Have you heard of locking your door?" "Have you heard of privacy?"Lucian appeared in the do

CHAPTER: 23. JUST CONCERN.

DORIAN'S POVCaelan's face on the screen had that specific quality it got when assembling a complete picture from incomplete information and was waiting for someone to fill in the rest.He looked at each of us in turn. The silence lasted exactly long enough to be deliberate. "Explain." He ordered finally, looking at me.I kept my posture straight and my voice level. "We found Ezra in an apartment after being missing for some days. Riven was the one keeping him. He found him before we did and didn't tell us. By the time we tracked the location and got there, Riven had gone into a dark episode. We got to him in time but Ezra has been unconscious for two days since we brought him home."Caelen was quiet. His gaze moved slowly across the room. It landed on Lucian's face. He was wearing a bandage across his nose. The bruise underneath his eyes had gone deep purple overnight. "And you. Did you also plan this with Riven? Cause I don't understand why you're in the same state as him.

CHAPTER: 24. PLEASE LEAVE.

EZRA'S POVThe ceiling was unfamiliar. That was the first thing I noticed after my eyes had opened clearly. It wasn't even the light, sound or the particular weight of my own body against the mattress. It was the wrong ceiling. I lay still and let the information arrive in pieces. Was I locked up somewhere else again? I sighed softly as I shifted my head uncomfortably on the pillow. My neck ached. The memories slowly arrived and I let it come. I had to then set it aside because there was nothing useful I could do with it right now. I turned my head and saw Dorian sitting in the chair beside the bed. His eyes were closed. His jacket was over the arm of the chair and his sleeves were rolled to the elbow. His head was tipped back slightly the way a person's head went when they had been sitting upright for a long time and their body had made a unilateral decision about rest. His hand was around mine, not loosely, the deliberate hold of someone who had decided on it and maintained it e

CHAPTER: 25. WHAT DOES HE LIKE?

AUTHOR'S POVThe doorbell rang twice before Cole got to it. He had been in the middle of making coffee which he abandoned on the counter still running, because after the last week of not knowing where Ezra was and waiting for a phone that barely rang and opening his door to three strangers, claiming to be his brothers in search of him...after all of that, Cole had developed a reflex about doors. He pulled it open but what he saw next wasn't what he expected. The man on the other side was not any of the three he had met before. Cole stared at him, eyeing his appearance. He had the same build as them, the same structure and even the same quality of presence that made the doorway feel smaller than it was. He looked just like them but this one had ink running up the side of his neck and along his forearm and an expression that the other three had never worn. He just wasn't sure so his brain ran a fast search. "Are you Lucien? Caius? Dorian?" He squinted. "Did you get a tattoo?"The

CHAPTER: 26. HELP ME ESCAPE.

EZRA'S POV I heard a knock on my door a few times and I just couldn't help but exhale almost in regret for my existence. "I said I didn't want to see anyone. Is that too much to ask?" I had clearly told Caius about this when he knocked twenty minutes ago. I didn't want food or water. I didn't want whoever was on the other side of the door coming in with their careful expressions and their managed distances and their twenty years of complicated history that I didn't have the energy to untangle right now.I had said all of that but they still didn't want to listen to me! "It's me, Cole." My eyes snapped open instantly as I heard the familiar voice. I sat up before I'd decided to. The door opened and he came in. I had approximately one second to arrange my face into something that wasn't the thing it actually was before he crossed the room and his arms were around me. The arrangement became completely unnecessary. We stayed like that for a moment longer than either of us wo

CHAPTER: 27. NOT SO FAST.

AUTHOR'S POVDorian sighed as he drummed his fingers against the chair. He had not moved from that same spot in almost like an hour. This was not however unusual. He was highly focused on somewhere else instead. The bedroom door. Caius couldn't help notice, as he was sitting just across him on the side with his notebook open and his pen moving at a very slow deliberate pace that meant he was thinking more than writing and every few minutes, his eyes tracked to Dorian and then to the door and back. Eventually, he said, "You think he's planning something." "I think a closed door and over an hour of talking is rarely nothing." He answered. "Especially with Ezra." "Cole is with him. It's natural that they have a lot of things to catch up on." "Well, that's the part that concerns me." Caius paused as he allowed the realisation to sink in. He tapped his pen against the notebook once, finally getting Dorian's point. "Cole is loyal to him. That makes sense. He would walk

CHAPTER: 28. YOU'RE A LIAR.

EZRA'S POV "Cole. Cole, please stop talking aimlessly for one second and tell me what's actually happening."Static on the other end then Cole's voice which was slightly too high and fast came in, "I told you. Coach has me on this whole...uhm, a whole training...there's a training thing, an extra session and I can't just..." "You're lying." I could literally imagine him running his slender fingers through his smooth hair as he spoke to me. He always did that whenever he was anxious. "I am not–" "Cole, I have known you for five months. You breathe differently when you're lying."There was a pause from his side before his defensive response came in. "That's not a real thing." "It is absolutely a real thing. So I am asking you what happened." "Nothing happened. I just think maybe the plan needs more...more thought, you know? More planning. Timing is everything with these kinds of..." "They got to you." I said flatly. "Ezra..." "You are genuinely the wo

CHAPTER: 29. PLEASE SAY YES.

EZRA'S POVI turned my head sharply and his face was right there. My breath got caught for a few seconds when our eyes met. It was so close enough that the steam had caught on his glasses slightly, close enough that I could see the detail of his expression, the warmth in it, the precision, and underneath both of those things something that had been sitting there for a long time and was no longer making any effort to hide itself. He reached up and removed his glasses. Folded them and set them on the shelf above the sink. For whatever reason that was, I felt my toes curl as he looked at me. "Hi." He whispered. My heart did something completely unreasonable. "Hi." I said back before I could stop myself. The corner of his mouth moved and I looked away. My body had decided without my consent to make the situation significantly more obvious than it already was and I became aware of this with a wave of embarrassment so complete it was almost physical. I tried to cover my swoll

CHAPTER: 30. AN AGREEMENT.

EZRA'S POVThe couch was comfortable enough but the situation wasn't. I sat in the middle of it with my hands in my lap and looked at the four of them arranged around the living room. The weight was suffocating and it reminded me of those moments when I would shrink myself just to get things over and done with but I was not doing that today. Today, I held the key. I looked back at them with the same energy they were giving me and let the silence run. Lucien was on the armchair to my left, both feet on the floor for once and elbows on his knees. Caius was beside him with his hands folded. Dorian sat calmly watching me while Riven had his arms crossed and his eyes on the floor, the wall, and the ceiling, anywhere that wasn't my face. "Well," I spoke for the first time since my arrival. "I'm here and ready to listen so someone should talk." They all looked at Dorian. Of course they had to. He took a breath that was barely a breath and looked at me with a controlled expression.
