Let's Go Home Part 2

Shane’s POV “It’s gonna be okay. Go see your mom when we get back. Talk to her. Then we’ll go to the hotel, okay? I’ll find a babysitter for Gabby.”She looks up at me. “That okay?”“Yeah. It’s fine.”I head into the bedroom while Maya starts cleaning up the kitchen. There honestly isn’t much to clean because I already washed everything earlier, but she starts gathering clothes and random little things anyway.I strip the bed and grab my phone, scrolling through my contacts before hitting Sienna’s name.“Hey, Cece.”She instantly laughs. “So now you're calling me Cece?”I grin. “I got a favor to ask.”“Shoot.”“Can you watch Gabby today and we’ll pick her up tomorrow?”There’s a pause. “Why? What happened?”I sigh.“Okay, don’t say anything, but Gabby’s father popped up on Maya unexpectedly asking to see his daughter. And Maya specifically said that man was never supposed to be around Gabby because he never wanted her. He wanted Maya to abort her, cheated on her, and then married ano

Anger And More Anger

Keisha’s POV “Sienna, girl, I am not going to any more stores.”I groan dramatically as I lean back against the passenger seat, holding my stomach a little. “We got the dresses, thank God to Maya and her very, very good fashion eye to dress women like us perfectly.”Sienna pouts from the driver’s seat. “Girl, come on. We still need to get you some jewelry. We got the shoes.”“Yeah,” I say dryly, “after going to five damn stores. Come on. This is a courthouse wedding, okay? Courthouse. My real wedding, you can do whatever you want. And that’ll be after the baby is born.”She chews on her lips and sighs dramatically. “Fine. So where are we going to eat?”I rub my stomach slowly. “I don’t know. My stomach still doing flip-flops and I can barely hold down anything but air. So where you think we should go?”Sienna taps her nails on the steering wheel. “Hmm… I’m craving pizza. Homemade pizza.”“You know what?” I nod slowly. “That actually sounds good. Because then I can get one with just c

Too Much Happening

Shane’s POV As we pull up to Maya’s mother’s house, I can literally see the anger radiating off of her. Her eyes looked red. And when I say red, I don’t mean from crying. I mean red-red. Like she was about two seconds away from committing a felony. Shit. I was lowkey scared. I quickly unbuckle my seatbelt and reach for the door handle, but Maya grabs my wrist. “Keep the car running.” I look over at her. “What?” She closes her eyes and takes a shaky breath. “Just keep it running.” “No,” I say immediately. “I’m getting out with you. I don’t want you doing something you’re gonna regret.” She shakes her head hard. “I’m so fucking pissed.” “I know you are,” I tell her softly. “You haven’t said a word since we left the Airbnb.” For the first time since we pulled off, her entire face crumbles. She puts both hands over her face and starts crying. Instantly, I unbuckle fully and lean over the center console, wrapping my arms around her as best as I can in the cramped space. She bu

Too Much Happening Part 2

Shane’s POV The ride to Knox and Sienna’s house is mostly quiet.Maya just stares out the window looking emotionally drained.Every now and then, I rub her thigh gently.Trying to ground her.Trying to calm her down. When we finally pull up outside the brownstone, she lets out a long sigh.I rub her back lightly.“It’ll be okay.”She nods weakly.“I’m gonna grab the bags,” I tell her. “You grab Gabby.”“Okay.”I hop out and head around to the back while Maya gets Gabby out of her seat. And the way she’s holding that little girl?Tight.Protective.Like she’s scared somebody’s gonna snatch her away.I grab the bags, then walk beside her up the stairs while holding her free hand. She squeezes mine hard.I ring the bell.A few seconds later, Knox opens the door with a grin.“Hey, man.”We do a quick bro hug.I laugh. “So you just left the gate open for us, huh?”“Yeah,” he chuckles. “Knew y’all were coming.”As soon as Maya walks inside, the entire room goes quiet.Keisha is sitting on

Baby Daddy

Maya’s POVAs I sit down on the couch, and I’m still fuming.I am so fucking angry with my mother.Like… beyond angry. My chest feels tight. My hands are shaking. My entire body feels hot. And honestly? I don’t even know if I’m angry or hurt more.Probably both.I look over at my two closest friends and let out a long sigh.As Shane disappears toward the back with Knox, Sienna immediately leans forward.“Okay, girl,” she says carefully. “Spill. Because this is not like you. You’re always upbeat, happy-go-lucky, nonchalant. You’re never this angry. So tell us.”I glance over toward my daughter.Gabby is sitting on the floor beside Carter, happily playing with toys like her little world wasn’t just turned upside down thirty minutes ago.And somehow? That calms me.Just a little.A small smile pulls at my lips before I finally speak.“You know… when I first got pregnant, I was scared as shit.”Both of them go quiet immediately.I take a deep breath.“I didn’t even think I could have kids

A Meeting of Sorts

Keisha’s POVAs I stare at Maya while Sienna is all over the damn place, I honestly don’t even know what to say anymore.Out of everybody in this damn city…Gabby’s father is Mayor Stanley Rogers? What the actual fuck.I haven’t been inclined to meet this Mr. Stanley Rogers before, but according to Sienna, he was a creep and a half. A rich creep and a half at that. And honestly? That tracks.Because sometimes when these men got money, power, and status, they really start thinking they can do whatever the fuck they want to do to people. And the shit he did to Maya?Foul.Completely foul.I still can’t believe he already knew she had issues with conceiving children. Knew she thought she would probably never be able to carry a baby. Then the second she gets pregnant with what is basically her miracle child…He tells her to get rid of the baby? Then signs his rights away? Then pops back up four years later talking about, “I’m your father.”No.Hell no.That shit would piss me off too.I l

The Boys Chat

Crandon’s POVAs I walk into Knox’s house, I can’t help but laugh because it’s like a whole damn party going on up in here.I got three additional people with me, and the second we step inside, I immediately spot Sienna, Keisha, and one of the people we actually wanted to talk to, Maya. But no Knox.No Kole either but I can faintly here Knox laughing in the back. And whoever Knox is talking to in the back sounds like they’re having the time of their lives because all I hear is laughing and voices coming from somewhere behind the kitchen.I shake my head.Of course.I introduce Tempest, her mother, and her sister Lorna to everybody. But the second I mention that Nia is an artist and wanted to come to Maya’s gallery opening?Boom.Them two completely take off into their own damn conversation.Like everybody else in the room disappeared.Maya immediately sits up straighter.“Oh my God, what type of art do you do?”Lorna smiles shyly. “Mostly mixed media and fabric work.”Maya gasps drama

Trying On Dresses

Keisha’s POVAs we enjoy this wonderful Saturday at Sienna’s house, as everybody and their mama seemed to be there, Kole ended up ordering food because nobody felt like cooking. So, Home Run Inn delivered a total of seven pizzas with wings, and we got the kids settled with their little cheese pizzas while the adults grabbed whatever slices they wanted. And surprisingly enough, baby Mabel and London, who could be very contentious with each other at times, were actually sitting there feeding each other pieces of pizza.I sat there watching them with the biggest smile on my face.Mabel would take a bite, tear off a tiny little piece, and hand it to London. Then London would do the same thing right back to her.I shook my head.Their relationship was definitely getting better. But my own baby could be a mess sometimes. And so could London. Those two little girls were something else.Still, they were getting along better now. Plus, they were toddlers, so honestly, it is what it is.As we a

Going Out

Maya’s POVAs we wrapped up everything at Sienna’s house, I sighed because I had to kiss my baby girl goodbye.Tonight was going to be my final night here with Shane before reality came crashing back in.After kissing Gabby and putting her to bed in London’s room, I made sure she was tucked in okay. London was already completely knocked out, sprawled across the bed with one little leg hanging off the mattress. It was funny because London was almost two and my child was practically four, yet somehow they were nearly the exact same size.I smiled to myself and brushed Gabby’s curls away from her forehead before quietly slipping out of the room. When I went downstairs, Sienna was cleaning up toys while Knox carried sleeping baby Carter toward the other room.“Girl, I’ll call you later, okay?” I said as I hugged her goodbye. She hugged me back tightly. “Okay. See you tomorrow.”As Shane and I walked outside toward his car, I looked over at him and grinned.“You know what?” I said. “Let’s

Wedding Day

Kole’s POVMonday morning.I woke up to the all too familiar sound of someone vomiting their soul out.I groaned and rolled over, looking at the clock.5:15 AM.Jesus Christ.I sighed heavily because my wife-to-be was sick as hell again.Slowly climbing out of bed, I walked into the bathroom and found Keisha hugging the porcelain throne for dear life.I leaned against the doorway and rubbed my face.“Babe,” I said softly, “you want one of those tablets the doctor gave you?”She shook her head immediately.“No, because I’m just gonna throw them back up.”Then she groaned dramatically and rested her forehead against the toilet seat.“This shit is giving me the blues. Like what the fuck is going on?”I sighed sympathetically.“I don’t know, baby. Hopefully it eases up soon.”I walked into the kitchen and grabbed her a small glass of root beer, shaking it a little first so it wouldn’t be too fizzy. When I came back, she took it from me carefully and sipped it slowly.“I was gonna use the
