A Messy Canvas

Keisha's POV“Okay, Kole, we are running freaking late. The art exhibit already started. The food might already be gone. Let’s roll.”Kole sighed as he came out of his grandmother’s living room.“Hey, I had to make sure my baby girl was good.”I rolled my eyes, even though I was still feeling slightly nauseous. But honestly?Today had been better.I had only thrown up once.So... progress.I’d even managed to eat lunch and keep it down. Granted, lunch was nothing but a grilled cheese sandwich, but still. A win was a win.And tonight?I actually felt pretty.Since I still wasn’t showing yet, I decided to wear a chic cream-colored pantsuit. The capri pants were pleated perfectly, and the short-sleeved jacket was double-breasted with artistic cutouts along the sleeves. Underneath, I wore a silky cream blouse that made the whole outfit look classy as hell.I looked over at Kole.Lord.This man cleaned up too damn well.He wore sleek navy dress pants with a light blue button-up shirt that

Isla PLEASE!

Shane’s POV As I sit there and watch this fucking piece of shit walk in here and head straight toward my woman, I am floored. The audacity of this man to show up here after Maya specifically told him to leave her the fuck alone had my blood already boiling. As I start making my way over there, I hear someone clear their throat beside me.I look to my left and immediately frown.Of fucking course.Isla.I stare at her and say, “What in the fuck are you doing here?”She smiles like she’s proud of herself and says, “Well, I’m here to support my husband. He’s here at this art exhibited and I’m his wife. Plus, I was given a ticket.”I frown harder. “Who gave you a ticket? And once again, why are you here? Because we are literally in the middle of a divorce.”She starts cackling loudly. “When did we get divorced? When did I sign papers? I just got served.”I shake my head and say, “For the second time. This is the second time I had to serve you.”Her face twists up. “Well, obviously that’s

Comedic Art

Maya's POV"Babe, this was a complete shitshow."I looked up at Shane, and he looked down at me before bursting out laughing. The sound was contagious.I started laughing too, and before either of us knew it, we were standing in the middle of this completely bougie art gallery event, wrapped up in each other's arms while laughing like idiots.Around us, people slowly started putting their phones away and returning to the actual exhibit.A few seconds later, my phone started going off.Ding.Ding.Ding.I pulled away from Shane and glanced down at the screen. And just like that, I shook my head. The devil might work hard, but internet sleuths worked a whole lot faster.Someone had already uploaded videos of Stanley, his wife, and the entire confrontation. The comments were pouring in.People were tagging news pages.Others were posting screenshots. The whole thing was spreading like wildfire.I wasn't the one who caused any of this.Stanley did that all by himself. If he ever tried to

Selling Dreams

Crandon's POVAs we continued walking around the art exhibit, I found myself genuinely enjoying the evening. The event was beautiful, classy, and surprisingly lively. Not one, but two of Maya's employees had already come over to speak with Lorna because people were interested in her work. She looked absolutely thrilled. After Maya came back from the rear room with Shane, Lorna practically bounced over to talk to her again.Honestly, both Maya and Shane had been through enough drama for one night. The whole thing was ridiculous.Shane eventually broke away and wandered over toward Knox and Sienna. Sienna was still standing in front of that painting of the naked man with what she kept calling a micro-penis, laughing like it was the funniest thing she'd ever seen.I didn't really get it.I could appreciate the artist's perspective, but Knox was trying his hardest to pull her away while she kept drawing more and more attention to the painting. The man's head wasn't even visible. It was ju

Disturbia

Crandon's POVAfter the art event let out, I drove my newly formed little family home.Honestly, I was surprised neither my brother nor my sister showed up tonight.I knew my sister was dealing with a bunch of bullshit lately, and if I had to guess, she was probably out on a date with Maverick. At least that's what I hoped for.As for my brother?I had no clue.Maybe his fiancée had gone into labor. Maybe something came up. I didn't know.Still, I was shocked neither of them made it.As I pulled into my driveway, I took a moment to look around before getting out of the car.My Ring camera notifications hadn't gone off all evening, which immediately made me feel better.Everything seemed quiet.Safe.Once we got out, I unlocked the front door and ushered everyone inside. As soon as we were all in, I locked the door behind us and armed the security system.Turning toward everyone, I smiled."So, I hope you guys had a great time in Chicago."Diane nodded."We did.""What time is your fli

Dropping Off

Crandon's POV"Hey, we gotta go. Now."I sat in my truck inside the garage, drumming my fingers against the steering wheel.Last night, I'd made a point of parking inside the garage instead of out front where I normally left my truck. After everything that had happened, I wanted everyone in the house to feel safe. I'd backed in carefully, turned on every exterior light, and made sure anyone trying to sneak around the property would stick out like a sore thumb. Now it was 5:50 in the morning, and I was waiting for three women, two of them to bring their luggage outside. My previous self would be yelling for them to hurry up.Today?I wasn't saying a damn thing.Because I knew for a fact I'd be sitting here forever if I started rushing them.I leaned my head back against the seat.Hell, I might die of carbon monoxide poisoning before they finally came outside.Just as I was thinking that, the door leading from the house into the garage opened.Finally.I hopped out quickly and grabbed t

Dates and Next Steps

Crandon's POVAfter spending most of the day relaxing, I finally got dressed.I slipped on a pair of tailored dress pants and a crisp white button-down shirt. After that, I sprayed on some Baccarat cologne, trimmed up my beard, and made sure everything was looking right.Because tonight?Tonight it was on.Period.I slid my wallet into my back pocket, grabbed my keys and phone, and stepped out of my room. The second I reached the downstairs landing, I heard Tempest call out."I'm coming down."I turned toward the staircase just as she appeared. And damn near forgot how to breathe. She was wearing one of her signature wrap dresses that hugged every beautiful curve she had. The dress showed off her figure perfectly without trying too hard. This woman was absolutely gorgeous. Her curly hair was pinned up in an elegant style, exposing the graceful line of her neck. Her makeup was light and natural, just enough to highlight what was already there. And whatever vanilla scent she was wearing

Security Balance

Keisha's POVWell, I thought my day was going to be nice and easy, but I was completely wrong. It definitely was not as easy as I thought it was going to be.I pulled up to my office in the nice rental car that I still had. The insurance company said my car should be ready by Thursday, so at least there was that.As I drove into the parking garage, I immediately noticed the same corrupt security guards. The same ones who were here when my car got vandalized. The same ones who were here when Joel and his brother were basically terrorizing me.So pretty much, everything looked exactly the same.As I walked into the office building, I saw all the usual faces. People were moving around, talking, drinking coffee, and pretending like everything was normal.I also noticed Joel. And he was much calmer nowadays. When I say calmer, I mean much, much calmer.Honestly, I was cool with it.I wasn't going to show my hand. Not yet.As I made my way toward my office, Jason walked up beside me."Good

Security... Really

Keisha's POVAs I finished up everything with the security team, I left the tech guys downstairs in the main security office. One of them had already started unloading equipment from the van while the others were getting organized and preparing to replace the old systems.I had just started walking away when one of the soon to be terminated security guards stopped me. I think his name was Andre. Honestly, I wasn't sure because they never wore any damn name tags since I'd been working here.He cleared his throat."Boss, what's going on?"I stopped and turned toward him."Excuse me? Are you talking to me?"He nodded."Yeah. You're the boss lady here."I smiled politely."No, actually. You have your own bosses. We just contract with your security firm.""Oh, my bad," he said quickly. "But what's going on? Because that's not our firm's van or anything.""Oh," I said casually. "Well, the building has its own security division. I was told to have them come in, walk around, and coordinate wi

The Wet Connection

Keisha's POVAs I started hearing a lot of commotion downstairs, I looked over at Jason and William. The three of us immediately stood up and made our way out of my office. The timing was perfect. One o'clock.Right on schedule. As I walked down the stairs, I could hear raised voices and movement coming from the main floor. Employees were stopping what they were doing and looking around, trying to figure out what was happening.I spotted Alex immediately.I walked over and put on my best confused expression."What's going on?"I had to play a little stupid.Just a little.Alex nodded professionally."Ma'am, I'm Detective Alex, and this is my partner, Detective Montgomery. We're here to arrest several individuals connected to property damage, vandalism, and the stalking of employees."I widened my eyes."Oh? So the complaints I made?""Precisely."He nodded."The owner of the company contacted us directly. We opened an investigation and expedited it once your vehicle was vandalized."
