I made my way to the living room. By the time I got there, she was already in the foyer. I let out a sharp breath. “What are you doing here? I wasn’t expecting you today,” I said, forcing my voice to stay controlled. “Your son misses you,” she replied as she gestured for Aiden to walk over to where I stood. “And I have something important to do today, so I couldn’t leave him at home.” “What happened to the nanny? Why didn’t you keep him with her?” I asked, almost sounding irritated. It wasn’t like I didn’t want to spend time with my son, but I wasn’t expecting him.
