B I A N C AForty eight hours later, Damian still hadn't woken up. The swelling in his brain had gone down, but he was still in a coma. The doctor said it was a good sign, that it gave his body time to heal, but it was small comfort to me.I hadn't left the hospital. I slept in a chair next to his bed, my hand never leaving his. I talked to him, told him about my day, about our families, about how much I loved him. I read to him, my voice hoarse from constantly crying. It didn’t look like he was getting better despite the doctor’s reassurance. He has not given any sign of waking up. In fact, he looks paler and more fragile than before. And that scared me to my core. The only reassurance that he was still here with me was the beeping of the heart monitor, the only sound that told me he was still alive. Chloe and my family had been taking turns bringing me food and clean clothes, but I barely touched them. My appetite was gone, replaced by a gnawing fear that coiled in my stomach. They

B I A N C A"Do you really think he might have a hand in this?" Chloe asked after I told her my suspicion about Lucas. She was also putting two and two together."I don't know," I said, my hands trembling as I closed the journal. "But it makes a sick kind of sense. He was always so possessive. He couldn't stand the thought of me being with someone else, especially someone as good as Damian. He saw Damian as a threat."I tried to brush the thought away, telling myself I was being paranoid. But the thought just kept coming back, nagging at me.I paced the room. "He knew Damian was my husband. He knew what Damian meant to me. What if he couldn't stand to see me happy with someone else? What if he wanted to punish me for leaving him?""But he's not a killer, B," Chloe said, trying to be the voice of reason. "He's arrogant and a jerk, but he's not a killer. Is he?"I didn't answer. I didn't know the answer to that. The Lucas I knew was many things, but I never thought he was capable of some

B I A N C AJulian’s car pulled to a stop in the hospital's designated parking lot, the engine purring softly before he silenced it. He turned to me, a look of genuine concern in his eyes. "Are you sure you want to go back in tonight? You look exhausted, B. Maybe you should let Marco take you home. Somewhere safe.""No," I said, my voice firm despite the tremor in my hands. "I need to be here with him. I can't leave him alone.""Okay," he said, not pushing further. "But I'm walking you to the entrance. And I'm not leaving until I know you're with Marco."I nodded, a wave of gratitude washing over me. I was so used to being strong, to handling everything on my own. It was strange to let someone in, to let them take care of me, even for a little while. We walked towards the hospital entrance. The automatic doors slid open and the familiar smell of antiseptic. I saw Marco standing by the entrance, his arms crossed over his chest as he looked at Julian."Who is he?" Marco asked as we ap

B I A N C AMy legs shook as I approached the bed. The world had narrowed to this single room, to the man lying in it whose eyes were now finally open. I reached for his hand, my own trembling so violently I could barely grasp his. His skin was still cool, but it wasn't as cold as before. There was life there. "Damian," I whispered, my throat tight with unshed tears. His gaze found mine, still hazy and clouded with a confusion I couldn't begin to fathom. "Bianca," he rasped. He tried to squeeze my hand, but the effort was too much. "I'm here," I said, my thumb stroking the back of his knuckles. "I'm right here.""Don't cry," he said, a faint smile touching his lips. "You'll get all puffy."A laugh sob escaped me. "You idiot," I managed, wiping furiously at my face with my free hand. "You scared the hell out of me. I almost thought you were going to leave me."He blinked slowly, as if processing my words. "Leave you?" he repeated. "Never. You'restuck with me forever."I wanted to te

B I A N C A"So, how exactly did it happen? One minute you were telling me about a failed deal, and the next I got a call that you were shot. Were you able to identify who did it?" I asked Damian, snuggling up to his side and tucking my head into his arm.He took in a deep breath, reminiscing the moment of what had happened. "One of my investors pulled out on a major deal. It was a huge loss for us and the investors weren't pleased by how the situation went," he said.He paused a little, trying to recollect his thoughts. "I left the office, trying to get home to tell you about it but then before I realized what happened, I felt a pain in the side of my abdomen," he explained further. "Before I could even make out who did it, I was already falling into the darkness. My vision got blurry and the next thing I felt was the hard impact of the road beneath me. Everything got so painful and then there was a moment where it didn't anymore, the only thought on my mind was you."His tone was vul
