***Emma's POV***I stared at the door long after Daniel walked out. Honestly I don't know how to feel anymore. On one hand, part of me has already given up on him, on trying to make him see me, love me, or even acknowledge my existence. But on the other hand, there's this unsettling dread inside that fears being alone. For five years, I had poured everything into this marriage. I woke up early to prepare his meals, hand-washed his favorite shirts because the washing machine was "too rough" and also personally delivered his lunch to the office almost every day. Yet I was barely acknowledged. He had never taken me out for a proper dinner date, not even on our anniversaries. The only time we ever spent time together was when we visited his father.Thinking about Mr Brooks, I haven't checked on him yet. After speaking with dad, I took my medicines and hurried into the bathroom to get ready. Divorce or not, I refused to look broken. I chose a soft pink V-neck flared

. *** Emma's POv***I stood there long after Daniel car disappeared, staring at nothing in particular. I checked my watch again, it's already fifteen minutes past six and people are slowly dispersing. I wanted to call for a cab but on second thought I decided against it. It's not like I'm going home to meet anyone or do anything. I exhaled and started strolling around the street. The city hall is located in a small town in the outskirt of the city, so everywhere is less busy and noisy. I took in the peaceful atmosphere and for a moment I didn't think about anything. As I continued to stroll, I started to get an uncomfortable feeling of being followed. I brushed it away, maybe I'm just being paranoid. However as I continued to walk, I got that same icky feeling of being watched and followed. Whoever it was seemed to disappear whenever I turned back. Panicking, I looked around and realised that I've unconsciously walked into a deserted alley. I hastened my steps but th

***Daniel's POV***Earlier today, she had dressed elegantly, as if she were attending a grand ceremony rather than a divorce. I could still remember the look in her eyes as she watched the divorced couple. The way she stared at the woman hugging her new man while her ex husband stood there, watching bitterly. It was as if she couldn't wait to be in that lady's position. At that moment, a lot of emotions were clashing inside me. I felt..."Daniel you have to stop worrying. Maybe she decided to stay over at a friend's place." Rachael's voice pulled me out of the memory lane.I snapped back to the present and realized I was still pacing around the room.“Emma doesn’t have friends.” I replied. My steps came to an abrupt halt. The realization that she didn’t have even one friend caught me off guard.“I’ll go look for her. Maybe she’s really in danger.”“I doubt it,” Rachael replied. “Why would anyone try to hurt her? She doesn’t have beef with anybody.”I glanced at my wa

***Emma's POV***Roland froze. He looked a little scared or should I say tongue tied. "We didn't know who you were, so we had to retrace your movements. From the CCTV footage, we saw you entering the city hall with a man." He said nervously."We could have been getting married." I queried still not satisfied with his answer plus he's avoiding my gaze.“You two didn’t exactly look like a happy couple. And the man left you there alone. That’s not what newlyweds do,” he replied, sounding more confident this time.I had a strong gut feeling he wasn’t telling me the full truth. I mean, not everyone had access to city CCTV footage. Who exactly were these people? Still, I pushed the thought aside. They had saved my life and that is all that mattered right now.“Get the doctor, please. I want to go home… to my husband’s house,” I insisted. He mumbled “ex-husband” under his breath before leaving the room. I chuckled softly and lay back against the pillows. The doctor a

***Emma's POV***My head is throbbing painfully, my entire body felt as though it was being stung all over. I winced against the harsh stream of sunlight cutting through the room.My throat was scratchy and dry. Luckily, there was a bottle of water on the bedside table. I gulped it down and sank back against the pillowsI wanted to go back to sleep, but after about five minutes of trying, I gave up. For a quiet moment, my thoughts drifted to the future. Once I leave here, I'll find a job and support myself. I'll rent my own apartment, go baby shopping, build something that's truly mine. I wondered whether it was a girl or a boy. Either way, I would love them with absolutely everything in me.I stroked my stomach tenderly, losing myself in the image of a simpler, softer life. One where it was just me and my baby, and the world couldn't touch us.A sudden movement beside me made me startle. I let out a shriek and scrambled to the edge of the bed. A strong
