Gabriella's POV"You have no idea how irritated I am by her presence. She's just sexy visually. A fucking prude." Davis, my fiancee, groaned.I stood by the door, visibly frozen in place. The little basket of hand made snacks felt heavy. Was he talking about me? It couldn't be."No way dude," Kevin, one of his close friends said. "To think we were tweaking on your behalf when the news about the marriage contract came out.""Yeah we thought you could easily get that pussy you had been planning on for over a year now." Tony chimed in."Well it's no use. Thought she would be a baddie but she's just a nun with a hot body. Can't believe I have to spend the rest of my life with a prude." Davis sighed."Thank God Maddy's still in the picture eh?" Kevin laughed. "Gabriella doesn't need to know.""Forget about Maddy and Gabby. We are in Vegas so let's get some strippers and have fun!!"Their boisterous laughter filled the room, each chuckle sending a sinking feeling down my stomach.I backed a

Gabriella's POV "Excuse me?" His voice snapped me out of my daze. "Huh?" I looked up at him. God he was more handsome up closer. His eyes were deep like whirlpools slowly dragging me in. "I believe you must be in the wrong place." He said, his voice was deep but the sound slid through my ears and turned my brain to mush. "Wrong?" I looked around now seeing the setting of people seated around. I stood up immediately, the slight alcohol making my cheeks hot. "I am so sorry. I didn't notice... I'll go now." I made to move quickly before any club employee came and disgraced me for forgetting to check before I sat. As I was about to pass, a large arm grabbed me in place. I looked up in confusion, my eyes widening at the close proximity and staring deep into those eyes. "Do they scare you?" His face was etched with curiosity. "What? Of course not." I shook my head. "They are absolutely beautiful and so unique. I'm sorry if it sounds like fake flattery bu

Gabriella's POVIn one swoop I was in his arms as he walked towards a different door. I helped him open it and there was an inner room with a more simple yet luxurious decor. He dropped me on the bed, towering over me as he threw his shirt to a corner of the room and then his hands moved to his belt.I moved my hands to my side, trying to get my dress zipper open, just for him to grab my hands in a tight grip."Don't." His voice was deep now and husky. "I'll peel every piece of clothing off you with my own hands."I gulped but the force in his voice heated my body in more ways than one.I rested back and the now shirtless man crawled over me, taking my lips in a fierce hold."Tigrotta." He kissed his way down my neck. "Do you know my name?""Huh?" My head was already foggy, the sensations paired with the dim light and the warmth of his skin leaving me a little brain dead."I asked if you know the name of the man that is going to take you to heaven and back." I felt pressure at the s

Gabriella's POVI woke up to a knock. Groggily I tossed around the bed, swinging my arm to the space beside me. I patted it twice but didn't feel the figure that should have been there.I opened my eyes to see an empty room. Where was Mariano? The knocks came again. I sat up searching for my dress and found it folded on a chair. I swung my legs to the edge and took a step just to fall back to the bed with a grimace. My legs were completely sore and the wave of pain that shot through me wasn't funny."Hello ma'am," a voice at the door spoke "Sir asked me to get something for you."Sir? Did that mean Mariano?A wave of relief flooded through me. I wouldn't lie by saying I wasn't disappointed not waking up to him. But this brought a smile to my face."I'm coming," I called out and stood up again. It still hurt but I could stand up and waddle up to the door.A housekeeper was outside the door, with some folded clothes and tubes of cream right on top of the pile. She entered inside and w

Gabriella's POV"—and then Darius came along to claim the proposal but I beat him to it and got the patent." Davis droned on"Nice." I said half-heartedly "Nice? I just told you how I worked hard during my travels and all I get is 'Nice'?" He turned to me annoyed that I was fawning over him like before."Sorry," I apologized with zero sincerity. "I'm just not interested.""What do you mean by that?" He raised a brow."When will we reach your family house again?" I ignored his question, looking out the window."In a few minutes. But you haven't answered me."I rolled my eyes. "I'm tired, Davis. You dragged me impromptu, the least you can do is leave me myself before we arrive.""Maddy would have been more enthusiastic." He muttered loud enough for me to hear but I closed my eyes pretending to be asleep.Just a week ago I would have launched into a series of questions and apologies because of that statement but now? I wish Maddy all luck for dealing with his nagging ass.Within ten m

Gabriella's Pov"What are you doing here?" I choked out after the silence dragged for several seconds.Davis's eyes narrowed at me and the nearly invisible space between me and his uncle."My mom said to check up on you. Because you were taking time." Davis gritted out.I opened my mouth to speak but Mariano caught me off. "I didn't know my nephew was so attentive with his little bride." The amusement in Mariano's voice made my gulp in nervousness. What in the world was he trying to imply. I didn't want Davis to get the wrong idea. Or any idea. Not until I find a way out of this entanglement."Thank you dear." I set a small smile on my lips and walked towards Davis, slipping my hand round his. "Your uncle saw I was having issues navigating the house and the room.""You could have called me." Davis slightly glared at me with that childish tone in his voice. I wondered why he was throwing a tantrum as usual but then I looked at Mariano. How he stood on the other side, tall, strong, wi

Gabriella's Pov The words settled in my stomach uncomfortably."And his eyes." She continued. "Some of the older family members call it a curse. Two different colors. They say it means he sees things other people cannot."I said nothing. I knew those eyes. I knew exactly what it felt like to have them focused entirely on you and feel like every wall you had built became completely useless."Do you believe that?" I asked. "The curse."Valentina smiled faintly. "I believe that powerful men collect rumors the way other people collect debts. Whether any of it is true—" She shrugged. "I suppose that depends on how close you get to him."Before I could respond my name cut through the garden air.I looked up to see Davis standing at the entrance of the house, his expression tight. Beside him were his parents, both wearing the careful smiles of people managing a situation. And behind them, unhurried as always, was Mariano.I stood and touched Valentina's arm briefly. "Thank you.""Anytime."

Gabriella's Pov I met my parents in the living room once I walked in.My mom looked up from her magazine and gave me a bright smile. My dad just glanced in my direction and sat up straight, which was different from his usual curt nod and short glance. He looked like he was bracing himself for something."How was it?" my mom asked. She placed her hand on the spot where Davis had grabbed me earlier.I hissed from the pain and stepped back. A puzzled look came across my mom's face."What's wrong? Why is your arm red?""Davis," I simply said. The air grew tense. I could see the mixture of emotions flickering across my mom's face. Confusion. Concern. Then something that looked like fear."He hurt you?" My dad frowned. "What did you do?"My mom's expression cycled through five different emotions in three seconds. I watched her go from shock to worry to something that looked like she was trying to find a way to explain this away."He grabbed you?" My mom reached for my arm again, more caref

Gabriella's Pov I went completely still. Every muscle in my body locked up.The voice was low and unhurried. I felt it move through me the same way it had in Vegas. Like it had all the time in the world and knew exactly what it wanted."How did you get this number?" My voice came out steadier than I felt."Does it matter?""Yes.""Then let us say I have resourceful people." A pause. "You did not answer my observation.""I did not think it required an answer." I lay back against my pillow and stared at the ceiling. My heart was beating too fast. "We were in a corridor full of people.""We were alone for a moment before that.""Mariano—""You ran from me in Vegas," he said. His voice dropped slightly. "You packed your things and left before I came back. You did not leave a name. You did not leave a number. You did not leave anything.""It was one night," I said carefully. "That was the arrangement.""Who arranged that?""I—" I stopped. "It was implied.""Not by me."The certainty in th

Gabriella's Pov A sound came from the glass office behind us. The door opened and a young woman stepped out. She was around my age. Sharp features. A neat blowout. The kind of put together appearance that took serious effort to look effortless. Her eyes moved from Davis to me with an assessment that lasted half a second too long."Davis, the Henderson file needs your signature before eleven," she said pleasantly."I will get to it," he said. "Kristen, this is Gabriella. My fiancée. She will be joining the department."Kristen smiled at me. It was a perfectly constructed smile. Warm but not too warm. Professional but with a hint of something underneath."Wonderful," she said. "We have heard so much about you.""Have you?" I said politely."Davis speaks of you often." She tilted her head slightly. "It is lovely to finally put a face to the name. He mentioned you preferred a quieter pace, so we have kept the workload for your desk fairly light. Just to ease you in."I looked at Davis. "
