CHAPTER 11: What Happens Next

YULIA“Hey,” I said, propping my head on my elbow to look Kendrick over and wondering if I would ever get used to the way my heart sped up whenever he was near me. I eyed him as he sat at the edge of his king-sized bed, typing on his phone.“Hey?” he asked with a smirk of his own and a cocked eyebrow. “If you don’t get your ass over here and greet me properly.” I was on him in an instant, our bodies pressed together while he kissed me like I was his favorite dish served.Kendrick laid me back on the bed gently. He kissed my neck, pressed his lips right below my ear where the pulse was hammering, and kissed me there so softly that my eyes closed on their own.His mouth trailed down the side of my throat, slow, tasting, taking his time in a way that no man had ever taken with me. Not even my ex. Kendrick was doing something else entirely, mapping out my body with his mouth like he had all night and nowhere else to be.His hands found the hem of my nightwear and pushed it up slowly, pa

CHAPTER 12: A Date We Shouldn't Have

KENDRICKTwo days. The words echoed in my head long after William ended the sentence.Beside me, Yulia looked completely stunned, clutching her phone tightly while panic flickered across her face.“What?” she asked. “Why are you coming back so soon?”Her father sighed over the line. “An important case came up unexpectedly. I have to return to London earlier than planned.”“Oh.” She tried to sound normal, but I could tell her mind was racing. They continued to talk. Meanwhile, all I could think about was the fact that the little bubble Yulia and I had created was about to become a lot more complicated.Eventually the call ended. Silence filled the room immediately afterward.Yulia slowly lowered the phone before turning toward me. “What now?”I studied her carefully, seeing the nervousness in her eyes. I reached for her hand calmly. “It doesn’t change anything for me.”“What?”“If your father comes back and you move home, we’ll still see each other.” I shrugged lightly. “You can come h

CHAPTER 13: I Saw Him First

UNKNOWN POVI stared at the picture I took of them kissing in the restaurant. I saw him first before the magazines and the interviews, before Forbes called him one of London's youngest tech billionaires. Before women started throwing themselves at his feet.I saw him first during freshman year. He sat three rows ahead of me during an introductory business lecture, completely focused on his laptop while everyone else struggled to stay awake.I remember staring at the back of his head for almost two hours. Pathetic, maybe. But even then, there was something different about him. Something untouchable. Most university boys wanted attention. Kendrick Fernsby didn't seem to need it. Girls flirted with him. He smiled, waved, and sometimes ignored them.Girls asked him out. He declined politely. Girls cried over him. He never noticed. That was the first thing I loved about him. The second thing? His ambition. While everyone else was partying, Kendrick was building, creating, or becoming some

CHAPTER 14: Something Shifting

YULIAThe drive home felt different. Maybe it was because I was officially Kendrick's girlfriend now. Or maybe it was because I still couldn't believe any of this was real. The city lights blurred past the window while a smile refused to leave my face.Beside me, Kendrick glanced over. “What are you smiling about?”I looked away quickly. “Nothing.”“Liar.”I laughed softly. “I just had a good night.”His expression softened. “So did I."By the time we reached the mansion, my heart felt impossibly full.Kendrick came around to open my door, and I slipped my hand into his as we walked inside. We stopped near the staircase inside. Neither of us seemed eager to say goodnight.“You should get some sleep,” Kendrick said eventually.I smiled. “Probably.”Yet neither of us moved. His hand tightened around mine. “Today was perfect.”My chest fluttered. “It was.”He brushed a strand of hair behind my ear, his gaze holding mine for a long moment before he kissed me.“I want you now, Peaches.”M

CHAPTER 15: When She Walks In Uninvited

KENDRICKI woke up before she did. Yulia was still curled against my chest, breathing slowly, completely relaxed like nothing in the world could reach her here. For a second, I just watched her. My arm tightened around her instinctively. Then—“Boom, boom, boom!!” The knock was neither soft nor polite. It was insistent.I exhaled through my nose. Whoever it was, they clearly didn’t value their life.Another knock. Then the door handle moved. My jaw tightened. “Seriously?” I muttered under my breath.I gently slid out from under Yulia and pulled the duvet over her before walking toward the door, rubbing my face once.I opened it. And immediately regretted not sleeping through it.Celeste.Sunglasses on. Even indoors. Her large purse hanging off her shoulder like she owned the place. She smiled like she had planned this moment.“Kendrick,” she said brightly. “Wow. You look… domesticated.”I stared at her. “It’s almost 7 a.m.”“And?”“Why are you here?”She pushed past me without waitin

CHAPTER 16: The Question At Dinner

YULIAThe car ride felt quieter than usual. Kendrick’s hand rested lightly on my thigh, his thumb moving in slow, absent-minded circles like he could feel every thought I was trying to suppress.“You’re overthinking again,” he said without looking at me.“I’m not,” I lied immediately. That made him exhale a quiet laugh. “Yes, you are.”I glanced at him. “I just… haven’t seen them in a while, and now we're dating…”“You’re meeting your father,” he corrected gently. “Not performing a courtroom argument.”I huffed. “It feels like one.”His hand tightened slightly on my thigh, grounding me without saying anything for a moment. Then softly, “Stop thinking too much.”“I can’t just—”“Yes, you can.”His tone wasn’t commanding. It was steady. Certain. Like he already knew what calmed me better than I did.I swallowed and leaned back into the seat slightly. The rest of the ride passed in quieter breaths. When the car finally slowed, I looked up. My chest tightened. Home.Kendrick followed my g

CHAPTER 17: The Truth In My Heart

YULIAThe question hung in the air. My father frowned slightly. “What's taking you so long to answer?”I forced a small laugh. “Nothing… I was just surprised.”“Why?” he asked.I set my fork down carefully. “Because… I've gotten used to staying at Kendrick's place.” My father raised a brow. “You have?”I nodded. “Yeah. I thought I'd hate it at first, but it's actually been nice.”Daphne smiled immediately. “See? I told you she'd settle in.”I smiled back. “It's not just the house.”My father's expression became curious. “What do you mean?”I shrugged. “I've met some really nice people. Kendrick's friends are great. Damon and Sophie have basically adopted me at this point.”Kendrick snickered. Daphne laughed. “I can see Sophie doing that.”A slow smile appeared on my father’s face. “Well, that's good.”Relief washed through me.“But… school reopens next week.” He proclaimed.I groaned internally but nodded. “It does.”“So when are you planning on coming home?”I shared a glance wit

CHAPTER 18: The Unknown Number

KENDRICKThe morning light spilled through the curtains, painting soft streaks across the room. For a long moment, I simply lay there staring at the ceiling, feeling the steady rise and fall of Yulia breathing against my shoulder. This felt like peace. That was the strange thing. My life had never been peaceful. My days were meetings, negotiations, investors, deadlines, and problems worth millions of pounds. Even when things went right, there was always another fire waiting to be put out.Yet somehow, the girl asleep beside me managed to silence all of it. I glanced down to see that Yulia had somehow stolen half the blanket and most of the bed.I smirked. Then she shifted closer in her sleep, pressing her face into my chest. My smirk disappeared, and my chest tightened. Looking at her, this felt reckless. That was what this was becoming. Reckless because I was getting used to it. Reckless because I wanted more, and I couldn't imagine letting her go.My phone vibrated on the nightstand

CHAPTER 19: Everything Would Fall Apart

YULIA“I swear, if Professor Reynolds gives us another twenty-page assignment before the semester even starts, I'm dropping out.”Adeline's dramatic sigh echoed through my phone, making me laugh. “You say that every semester,” I pointed out.“And one day I'll mean it.”“You won't.”Sophie laughed from the other end of the group call. “She's right. You complain too much to quit.”“I am being attacked by both of you.”“You deserve it,” I said.Adeline gasped. “Betrayal.”I rolled my eyes and shifted further into the couch. The afternoon had passed surprisingly quickly. Between unpacking the last of my things and trying to prepare myself mentally for school reopening soon, I hadn't had much time to think.“Sooo…” Sophie drawled, changing the subject. “I heard of a certain celebration…”I sat up slightly. “Mhmmm, Daphne wants to host a gathering next week.”“A party?” Adeline asked.“She calls it a gathering.”Sophie immediately laughed. “That means rich people party.”Adeline shrieked. “

CHAPTER 20: The Eyes in the Shadows

KENDRICKI didn't tell Yulia about the photographs. Maybe I should have, but when I looked at her last night, smiling and talking on the phone with Sophie and Adeline, I couldn't bring myself to do it.She'd spent the last few weeks happy. Really happy. I wasn't about to be the one who took that away. Unfortunately, that didn't stop me from thinking about it. The anonymous message sat at the back of my mind like a splinter.Enjoy your girlfriend while you can.The words weren't a threat, not directly, that was what bothered me. Threats were easy. Threats gave you something to fight. This felt different. Calculated. Patient.Whoever sent it wasn't trying to scare me. They wanted me to know they were watching, and people like that were dangerous.By seven-thirty the next morning, I was already in my office. I needed answers ASAP. I stared at my phone screen again. The photographs of us at the restaurant. The parking lot. Outside my house. Each image had been taken from a different angle
