ELENAI woke up on the couch again the next morning, my neck stiff and my head pounding. I didn't remember falling asleep there but I think I was too tired or lost deeply in thought. I didn't know when I dozed off. I sat up and my eyes landed on his purchase across the room, the ugly pink flip-flops, where I kicked them off last night. I stared at them for a long moment, and the image of him crouching in front of me, his hands on my ankle, sent me a shiver down my spine.I stood up and walked across the room. I picked them up. Not being petty, but they were light, cheap, something you'd buy in a convenience store at midnight because you have no other choice. And I don't wear purchases like that, unfortunately. I held them in my hands for a second, and then I walked to the trash can and dropped them in.I went to the bathroom afterwards and turned on the shower. I stood under the hot water for a long time, letting it run over my face, trying to wash away the exhaustion. I barely slept
