~Atlas~Maybe I should buy this hospital. That might be the only way to get a chance to speak to Felix. Every single attempt I made so far to go in and see him had been blocked by one staff or the other. And I was starting to get antsy. I didn’t have the time to sit here in the waiting room just to get access to a criminal. Felix didn’t deserve this coddling that he was receiving here. Granted that he just regained consciousness after suffering a stroke, it still didn’t change my view of him.Whether he was aware of every vile thing his boss was doing or not, he was still going to answer for his crimes. Now, if only I could speak to him for a few minutes. That was all I needed, a few precious moments with him. I just had to get a name from Felix and then I could get to work.Every single second that ticked past with me sitting here, Ann and possibly others like her were put in more grave danger. But as much as I longed to bulldoze my way through into seeing Felix, I knew I couldn’t do

~Atlas~My fist slammed into the wall.I watched dispassionately as thin cracks spread along the wall. My whole arm throbbed, but I couldn’t care less.Even as blood slowly dripped from my hand and down to the carpeted floor of my office, I didn’t move.My thoughts were a hazy slapdash in my head as my mind kept returning to the last eight hours, especially the moment I heard the terrible news.I did my best to leap after the fleeing man, but I was still too late. He slipped just out of my grasp and disappeared out the hospital door.Once he merged with the foot traffic outside, he was lost from view. And Felix remained dead as a doornail.Raina, the doctor I had been talking to, said Felix had been smothered in bed. A nurse walked in and saw the assailant covering Felix’s face with a pillow and pressing down. She raised the alarm and the security came running, but by the time they arrived, the deed was done, and the man was already fleeing. In the ensuing commotion, another doctor tri

~Eliza~“We need to talk,” he added. “Or are you going to run away again?”That was exactly what I had planned to do, but hearing those words from him maddened me. The only bit of control I had left in me snapped.I swung around on my heel to glare at him. “What did you just say to me?” I demanded icily.Atlas stared back at me with a calm, almost unbothered stare that pissed me off even more. How dare he remain calm in this moment? How could he just stand there and talk to me like I was a kid after what he did to me?“I asked if you wanted to hide away like you always do?” he repeated as if he was just talking about the weather. Before I knew what I was doing, my feet were turning, taking me back to stand before him. I crossed my arms and bent forward slightly at the waist.“Oh, you have some fucking gall,” I snarled. “You dare talk to me like that after bringing that woman in here?”His brows shot up high on his forehead and he opened his mouth, but I railed on heedlessly.“Do you kn

~Eliza~It has been twelve hours, forty-five minutes and ten seconds since the great reveal. And I still hadn’t gotten the chance to speak to Atlas.Although I knew he returned to the house late at night, I hadn’t set my eyes on him. He was definitely avoiding me… and the worst part is that I couldn’t even blame him.I would avoid myself too if I did something as terrible as that. After spending all night tossing in bed, lost in thought about my grave mistake, I had woken up early this morning to speak to Atlas. But the whole house was more silent than a graveyard. Atlas had left for work.Even if I should have expected that, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the longer we spent apart, not talking, the more I was going to lose him. For good this time. After our discussion the previous day, everything started to fall into place. I now understood why Isabella and Vivian had been so smug when I went home for the holidays following that night.Isabella must have told her mother what she di

~Eliza~I had no real recollection of how I got to the hospital. All that mattered was that I was there, in the waiting room, waiting for the doctors to finish working on my father.Seeing the text from my father’s phone number a few minutes earlier had sent my heart streaking straight towards the floor.[Your father is in a critical state at the hospital]At that moment, every slight, every dismissive word or insult, none of that mattered in the least. All I could think about was getting to my father before it was too late. And there I was, seated beside Vivian in one of the uncomfortable metal chairs in the silent waiting room. My heart thudded dully against my ribcage as I stared at nothing. My mind was blank, save for the mantra I kept repeating. Please don’t die. Please don’t die.As much as I resented and even maybe hated him for the way he has always treated me, the last thing I wanted was his death. In fact, panic seized my breath as I thought about losing the only person I had
