~Eliza~He is alive.Only after hearing the doctor say those words did my heart resume its normal pace.As soon as I heard that the surgery was successful, my only thought was how to see and talk to him. Vivian and Isabella receded into the background of my mind because they didn’t matter. But we were asked to leave and return because he was still unconscious. This morning, however, I received a call that my father had regained consciousnessDelighted, I rushed down to the hospital, happy that at least, he was now awake.Unfortunately, Vivian and Isabella were already at the hospital. The two of them had been shooting me baleful glares, but thankfully, they kept their distance. That was probably for the best because I was really not even in the mood to hear any of their bullshit. Then a nurse came to tell us that ‘Mr Monroe was ready to see visitors now’. Of course, I sat back and let Vivian and her daughter rush forward eagerly. It wasn’t as if my father would pick me over them anyway

~Atlas~One hour later, it was done. Now that we knew Ann’s precise location, it was only a matter of time before we got her out.Oak’s job was practically done, but I needed him to keep an eye on the villa. That way if they moved Ann to a different place, we would know. But now, I had a team of six experienced men on their way to the villa. I expected to get positive feedback. Either Ann was safe and the secret boss was captured, or just the former. All we could do now was wait and hope.I had to pull a few strings to get the men. But if it meant an innocent girl would return to her family, then it would be worth it.Cole had explained that they lost their parents a few years ago, though. That meant they would need some help to get their lives back on track once Ann returned.I already made plans for that, but something still held me back. For some reason, I couldn’t ignore the niggling voice warning me that something was off.I just couldn’t figure out what exactly it could be about.

~Eliza~Three days later and I still didn’t feel fully settled inside. The terror and pain I felt when I heard what happened still remained in me. That was why I hadn't left Atlas’ side in the past three days except to freshen up and grab a bite. Especially in the first two days, I compulsively checked him to be sure he was breathing.More than once, the doctors had caught me with my face pushed close to his chest to be sure it was moving up and down. Or I would be peering at his face, waiting for the warmth of his breath to hit me.Only after getting proof that he was alive could I breathe easy. The nights were the hardest. I would jerk awake from a nightmare and jump up to confirm that Atlas was alive.Thankfully, he was. He had suffered a few burns and broken the bone in his left forearm, but he was living and breathing. And that was all that mattered… for now.Later, we had to figure out who could have planted an exploding device under his car and why they wanted to kill him.But a

~Atlas~“Yes?” I said curtly.“The villa has been surrounded and everyone has been captured. Miss Ann is safe,” Tony, the leader of the extraction team, informed me in a monotonous voice that gave nothing away.Relief, so deep that it weakened my knees, swamped me. I exhaled sharply and leaned back in my chair. “How is she, though? Does she need medical attention?”“She is…” he hesitated, and for the first time, I heard an emotion in his tone. And it wasn’t a good one. My heart sank.“She is in a bad shape, sir,” Tony finally said, and I closed my eyes.Suddenly, this victory felt hollow and unfulfilling. We had saved Ann, but the months she had spent in captivity with those people must have done something to her.“And sir?” he called, and a shiver of foreboding raced down my spine.“Yes?”“She wasn’t alone,” he said with a heavy sigh.My grip on the phone tightened reflexively. “There are others?” I asked sharply.“Too many actually,” Tony replied quietly. “We found six other girls he

~Atlas~One week later, we found Jane.Hearing the vehemence in Cole’s voice yesterday made me quickly realize that I had been wrong about several things.Turns out that Cole and Jane were certainly not an item as I had believed. As a matter of fact, Cole hated Jane. Perhaps hate was too light a word to describe the way he felt about her.It seemed as though as soon as he heard his sister was safe, he couldn’t wait to spill everything he knew about Jane. And by God, did he spill.I had to do a complete roundabout on my knowledge of Jane too. And it hadn’t taken long to understand just how evil she was. Beneath her veneer of calm kindness, she was ruthless and vicious, especially towards Cole.Cole had wasted no time in describing how Jane had been assigned to watch him when he was sent to spy on my company. Together, they worked to retrieve important information about our designs and funnelled it to Jane’s boss… who was also Felix’s secret controller.I huffed and shook my head. Even t
