THE MAJOR CONTRACTI was reviewing our latest quarterly projections when Ethan burst into the main workspace, his face flushed with excitement. Evelyn! You need to see this,” he said, waving a printed email. “Global Dynamics just put out a massive RFP. They’re looking for a full supply chain transformation partner. The contract is worth over two hundred million over five years. This could change everything for us.”My heart skipped. Global Dynamics was one of the biggest logistics players in the country. Landing this would put Silverline on the map in a serious way. I took the email and read it quickly.“We have a real shot,” I said, already thinking through our strengths. “Our sustainability angle and the new platform updates give us an edge over the traditional players.”Ryan walked in a few minutes later, carrying coffees. He immediately sensed the energy in the room.“What did I miss?” he asked.Ethan grinned. “Global Dynamics RFP. Huge contract. We’re going all in.”Ryan’s eyes l

THE CHAIRMAN'S ARRIVALThe morning at Harrison Group started like any other until Victor Harrison walked through the front doors.People noticed immediately. Heads turned. Whispers rippled across the open floors.“Is that the Chairman?”“He hasn’t come in person in months. What’s going on?”“Something big must be happening.”Victor moved with the same commanding stride he’d always had, tall, sharp-eyed, dressed in a perfectly tailored dark suit that made everyone around him straighten up without thinking. He didn’t smile. He didn’t greet anyone. He simply walked toward the executive elevators like the entire building still belonged to him. Because in many ways, it did.Adrian was in his office reviewing the latest Global Dynamics bid when his assistant knocked urgently.“Sir, your father is here. He wants an immediate meeting with the senior team in the main boardroom.”Adrian’s jaw tightened. He closed the file on his desk. “Tell everyone to be there in ten minutes.”When he entered

EYES EVERYWHEREAdrian sat behind his desk, the city skyline stretching out behind him like a kingdom he was struggling to hold together. The meeting with his father still burned in his chest. He picked up the phone and dialed Sophia’s extension.“Come to my office,” he said when she answered. “Now.”A few minutes later, Sophia walked in, closing the door softly behind her. She looked composed and elegant in her tailored blouse, a small smile playing on her lips as if she already knew why she had been summoned.“Adrian,” she said smoothly, taking the seat across from him. “You wanted to see me?”He leaned back in his chair, studying her carefully. “What were you discussing with my father in his office earlier? I walked in, and the conversation stopped. I want the truth.”Sophia tilted her head slightly, her expression innocent. “Just work talk, Adrian. Nothing more. We were going over the Global Dynamics contract on how to make sure we win it, the best strategies to use, and the weakn

The proposal I was at my desk in the Silverline loft when the email came in. My heart beat a little faster as I clicked it open. Global Dynamics had sent their initial feedback on the proposals. The subject line was clear: Proposal Status Update.I read the first few lines and felt the air leave my lungs.Silverline Technologies Proposal Not Selected for Advancement. They thanked us for our submission and praised some aspects of our innovation, but ultimately said we lacked the proven scale and long-term reliability they required for a contract of this size. Harrison Group’s proposal had been accepted and moved to the next stage.I sat back in my chair, staring at the screen. The words blurred for a second. We had poured so much into this. Late nights, revisions, every idea I could pull together. And it wasn’t enough.Ethan walked over, his face already telling me he had seen it too.“Rejected,” he said quietly, sitting on the edge of my desk. “Harrison Group advanced. They cited our

The Italian restaurant was warm and inviting, with soft lighting and the comforting aroma of garlic and fresh herbs. Ryan and I had spent the evening talking easily about the Global Dynamics win, the small victories at Silverline, and lighter things like favorite books and childhood memories. For the first time in a long while, I felt relaxed. No pressure. No expectations. Just good conversation with someone who made me feel seen.As we finished dessert, Ryan looked at me across the candlelit table, his expression turning more serious but still gentle.“Evelyn,” he said quietly, “I’ve been thinking about this for a while. I really enjoy spending time with you. Not just as colleagues or friends. I like you. A lot. I don’t mind taking things slowly as slow as you need. But I’d like to ask… would you consider being my woman? Let me be part of your life in that way?”His words were sincere, spoken without pressure. His eyes held mine with warmth and patience. There was no demand, no rush.
