CHAPTER THIRTY One – The Girl From Years Ago Stella’s POV The road back to the pack house was quieter than I expected. The excitement from the championship was slowly fading behind us, but I could still hear the cheers inside my head. Jaxon drove with one hand resting on the steering wheel while soft music played in the background. For the first time in a long while, my heart felt lighter. Telling him the truth about my father had taken away a burden I had carried for years. I had expected him to look at me differently, I had expected him to ask endless questions. Instead, he had simply listened. That alone meant more than I could explain. Jaxon glanced at me before smiling. “You’ve been quiet for almost ten minutes.” I smiled back. “I was thinking.” “That sounds dangerous.” I laughed. “It is.” He chuckled.“Should I be worried?” “Maybe.” He pretended to sigh. “I knew winning one match wouldn’t make my life any easier.” I folded my arms. “So you’re sayi

Yet today…The person I had been looking for was standing right in front of me.I slowly stepped closer. “Amber…”She looked at me with a gentle smile. “I never imagined it would be you.”She gave a small nod. “Neither did I.”I looked at the half necklace she was holding. “I still can’t believe this.”She lowered her eyes. “I couldn’t believe it either.”I frowned slightly. “What do you mean?”She looked back at me. “When we first met at the hockey academy, I didn’t know you were the boy from years ago.”I stared at her. “You didn’t?”She slowly shook her head. “No, I noticed the necklace you were wearing,

CHAPTER Thirty five – The Guest RoomJaxon’s POVSleep did not come easily that night.I lay on my bed with my hands behind my head, staring at the ceiling, every time I closed my eyes, I saw Stella standing in front of me downstairs. She had looked at me, she had looked at Amber. Then she had walked away, the look on her face refused to leave my mind.I turned onto my side and glanced at the clock beside my bed.It was already past midnight, I let out a slow breath. Why had she refused to open the door?I had stood outside her room for several minutes, I had knocked more than once, I had called her name. She never answered. The only thing I heard was silence, something was wrong, I was sure of it.The problem was that I had no idea what I had done.I replayed every conversation we had shared over the last two days.Nothing stood out, nothing made sense. Finally, I closed my eyes. “I’ll talk to her tomorrow.”.,,Whatever is bothering her…We’ll figure it out.”That thought was the onl

Chapter 437The Truth She Wouldn’t TellStella’s PoVThe entire arena became quiet, every player was looking at me. Even the assistant coaches had stopped talking. Jaxon stood only a few steps away, waiting for my answer. “I want to know why you’re trying so hard to push me away.”His voice was calm, there was no anger in it.I swallowed hard.My heart was beating so fast that I thought everyone around me could hear it.If I told him the truth…Everything would change.I looked at Amber. She stood quietly with her hands folded in front of her, she looked innocent looked harmless. If I had not known her my entire life, I might have believed that expression.I forced myself to look away. Then I smiled. It was a weak smile. “I’m not pushing you away, Jaxon”Jaxon did not move. “You aren’t?”I slowly shook my head. “I only thought Amber deserved a chance.” My voice sounded steadOc only I knew how much effort it took to keep it that way. “She’s new…I thought it would help her settle into

CHAPTER FORTY-TWO – A Deal in the DarkStella’s POVTraining ended later than usual.Coach kept us on the ice for extra drills after the morning practice. By the time the final whistle echoed through the arena, my legs felt heavy and my shoulders ached. One by one, the players began leaving the rink. Some headed to the locker rooms.Others stood around laughing as they talked about the upcoming exhibition.I packed my equipment into my hockey bag and quietly walked out of the changing room. All I wanted was to go home.My mind was already exhausted.Ever since Amber came into our lives, it felt as though I could no longer breathe properly.I stepped outside the arena. The afternoon sun was beginning to fade, and the parking lot was much quieter than usual.A few cars pulled away while others remained parked.I tightened my grip on my hockey bag and started walking toward the road.Behind me, I heard footsteps. At first, I ignored them.I assumed another player was leaving. Then a fami
