ScarlettI sank deeper into the cozy booth, my legs stretched out, poking the little miss who was too engrossed in her own world to acknowledge the gazes that pinned me down.“I still can't believe the Alpha is coming back.”“Technically, he is the prince. He didn't complete the Alpha ceremony before they sent him off to some fancy school outside the pack,” I chimed in, glancing at the cup of coffee that sat on the wooden table.“Still, he was partially ordained as the Alpha, so yes, he is the new Alpha,” she interjected. “Plus, he is coming back after over a decade.”14 years.I didn't dare correct her, not when she was among the 99.99% of the pack who were going crazy about the return of the Alpha. The same Alpha who left his pack to study abroad—something about staying with humans must have been so improving.I snorted.A huge part of me knew I was being selfish. The Mooncrest pack hadn't been the same since he left. Although we smiled and laughed, a little part of us missed our y

SCARLETTSilence rang through the hall for a fleeting second before James rushed closer, his face filled with concern.Fake concern.God! How was I so blind?“Baby, I can explain. I'm sorry. I was depressed and I did stupid things, I…”“She heard our conversation. Look at her. She is trembling. Tears are leaking from her cheeks.”Anger burned alongside the hurt.“I…”My gaze met James's. Ignoring my wolf's sneer, I decided to be the fool one last time—to let the stupid part of me hope.“Was this ever real?” My voice was barely above a whisper. He didn't answer.“Answer me, James. Was it ever real, even for a moment?” I gripped my jeans, my eyes red with hurt and tears that begged to be let loose. It felt stupid. A little part of me was clinging to a dead end. Three years—three freaking years of living together, of laughter, three years of love. Everything... everything was a lie?“You speak like you deserve him.”“You shut up!” I screamed at her, then shifted my gaze back to James.“T

SCARLETTThis wasn't the plan. This wasn’t what we had signed up for. The agreement was simple: walk in, play the part of the supportive, perfect couple, and play it safe. The plan was merely to show the pack that I was his—a political shield to get us both through the night. But the moment Creighton’s lips crashed against mine, the plan shattered. My mind went entirely blank, and deep within my chest, my wolf howled in fierce, primitive triumph. His grip tightened around my waist, pulling me so close our chests pressed flush against one another. Slowly, almost desperately, I moved against his lips. My hand slid up the broad expanse of his chest, my fingers fisting the fabric of his shirt as I kissed him back. I poured everything I had kept bottled up into that kiss—every ounce of anger, passion, and raw desire. It was hard, rough, and absolutely consuming. When he finally paused and pulled away, he was breathing heavily. In his golden eyes, I saw a reflection of something entirely di

SCARLETTHe went rigid, his eyes flickered from shock to guilt then back to its normal glint.“I don't know what you were told, Scarlett. I don't know who lied to you.” I stood. I listened. He didn't fumble; Father never did. Maybe that made it hard to know if he was really saying it, if he really meant it, or if it was another ploy to get me under his control.I stepped back and into Creighton's embrace.“This is a ceremonial event. We shall talk about our private matter later.” And by later, I might mean never.I gave him a light bow before Creighton waltzed me out of there. Still, I stared at him through the corner of my eyes, hoping, wishing I could see a thread of guilt, care, or worry, but all I saw was indifference.“He doesn't care about us.” My wolf purred then resumed her sleep. For the past week, she had rarely shown herself. Creighton said she might still be weak.Although, when she dug her claws into James's neck, weak was the last thing I felt. She was strong. My blood w

ScarlettI awoke to the whispering voices that fluttered through my subconsciousness. My heavy eyelids creaked open only to be assaulted by the harsh rays of the sun.I blinked once, then slowly adjusted to the contrast of the room. I shifted my gaze to Martha and a man I presumed to be a doctor. He looked over forty, although Lycan ages are quite different from human.“My lady.” Martha bowed as she held me up to lean against the bedstand.“Greetings, Lady Scarlett.” The doctor bowed.“How did I end up on my bed?” I clearly remember losing consciousness on the floor.“I found you this morning and called the physician.” I nodded to her words, then turned to the physician.“What's wrong with my wolf?”He lowered his head. “Unfortunately, my lady, I couldn't find exactly what is wrong. Your wolf seems fine, your core energy is normal. Maybe it's your body exhaustion.”Maybe?! I didn't want a maybe, I…I breathed out.“Fine.”“Have some rest, avoid stress, and you will be fine.” He took a
