Chapter 1

Without hesitation, I stepped on the gas to its limit so that I could rush over to the hotel, which was shown in the video's background. After kicking the hotel room's door down, I saw my girlfriend, Amethyst Wyndham, clutching the sheets to cover herself in alarm. It was a shame that she failed to conceal the love bites and hickeys dotting across her neck.My younger brother, Lance Knight, tossed a used condom at my feet provocatively."It's such a shame that you've arrived a little too late, Archer. Otherwise, I could've taught you how to pleasure Amethyst in bed."The smell of sex was so potent in the suite that it made me nauseous. I wasted no time in approaching Lance quickly. After yanking him out of bed, I landed a punch on his smug face.Amethyst shrieked at me immediately. "Have you gone insane, Archer Knight? Calm the hell down!"I turned to look at her with bloodshot eyes, my gaze soon landing on her lips that had gone red and swollen from kissing Lance."How the he

It didn't take long for the paparazzi to swarm me like a school of bloodthirsty sharks. They were so close to jabbing their microphones in my face."Mr. Knight, is the rumor of your fiancee sleeping with your younger brother true?""As the newly-appointed CEO of Knight Corp, you already have a scandal breaking out as soon as you take over the mantle. Is there anything you'd like to tell us?"I squeezed through the crowd, my face stone cold. At the same time, I kept repeating to everyone that I had nothing to say to them.At that moment, I heard Lance choking out to the paparazzi in a seemingly feeble tone, "It's all my fault. It's just that I love Amethyst far too much. "To tell you the truth, I've been diagnosed with cancer, so I don't have much time left in this world. All I want is to boldly pursue the woman I love during my final days…"I paused in my tracks, finding the whole thing very ridiculous.Lance looked so energetic earlier. How could he be a patient with terminal

Feeling very exhausted, I pointed at the door."Leave, Amethyst. Don't come looking for me ever again."Amethyst bit her bottom lip stubbornly. "I'm not leaving! You're still sick, Archer! I need to stay here and take care of you!"She carefully scooped out some chicken noodle soup from the thermos food jar with a spoon before blowing on it carefully for me.In the past, I had been hospitalized after suffering from a case of stomach bleeding that occurred due to me overdrinking while I was trying to close some business deals with my clients. Amethyst had taken care of me the same way at that time. The only difference was, I was very sure that she was in love with me back then. Now, I couldn't tell who she was genuinely in love with.Just as Amethyst passed a spoonful of cooled soup to my lips, she jolted instantly as soon as a notification popped up on her phone. Realizing that she had overreacted earlier, she explained to me awkwardly, "Something just came up at my university.

Once we reached the living room, I finally realized that all of Knight Corp's shareholders were actually here. I turned to look at Dad, feeling my throat go tight and dry all of a sudden."What's the meaning of this, Dad?"He responded by whacking my leg with his ornate cane. "Get down on your knees!"Soon, my knees crashed onto the icy floor with a loud thud. As I gazed up at Dad, I asked, "Did I do something wrong?"Dad glared at me with pain in his eyes. "If it wasn't for Lance breaking the news to me, how long did you plan on hiding the truth from me? I will never let a sterile, impotent freak like you become the future head of Knight Corp!"Having taken your contributions to Knight Corp into consideration, you are to commandeer the overseas branch from now on, Archer. As for everything else, I shall entrust them to Lance."I got up from the floor instantly."Dad, those tabloids are just making a fuss out of nothing! There's nothing wrong with my physical health!"But D

Dad's expression darkened immediately at my words.Angered by my question, Amethyst was quick to deliver a slap across my face."What do you mean by that, Archer? Are you planning on ruining my reputation now that you can't have me as your future wife?"As for Lance, he just sneered at me."It's no use driving a wedge between us, Archer. I'm the only man Amethyst has ever slept with. She's definitely pregnant with my baby."I merely raised an eyebrow in return. "I never claimed that the baby isn't yours, Lance. The thing is… Are you even Dad's son?"All the color was drained from Lance's complexion as soon as he heard me."What the hell are you on about? How could I not be Dad's son? I'm practically a spitting image of him!"Dad seemed to be stunned by my question as well, for he shot up to his feet immediately. The other shareholders shared similar reactions, too. Their eyes kept flicking between me and Lance repeatedly, clearly interested in the sudden plot twist. If I wer

Three hours seemed like a short time on a regular day. But now, those hours seemed to stretch on forever as we waited in the hospital.Amethyst wiped some sweat off Lance's brow lovingly."Don't worry, Lance. You're definitely a Knight through and through. Archer is just making one last desperate struggle. Once he's done flailing, his reckoning will come."As I listened to Amethyst's demeaning words, I just stared at the old scar snaking across my palm quietly. Then, I recalled the time Amethyst and I had first met.In that memorable year, Knight Corp had donated ten million dollars to the university Amethyst was teaching at. Back then, Dad had entrusted the task of giving a speech at the university in favor of seeking out potential job-seekers.After completing the task, I decided to take some time out of my busy schedule to roam around the campus on my own. That was when I stumbled upon the scene of Amethyst receiving a confession from a university student. To me, her voice was

Dad's expression darkened instantly. As Lance struggled to stand up by supporting his weight against the wall, he roared at the top of his lungs."Dad, don't trust what that report said! The results are definitely fake! Archer must have bribed the medical staff here! They must have switched my blood sample with someone else's!"Amethyst snatched the report out of Dad's hands. After giving it a once-over, her complexion became as white as a sheet. She had spent so long scheming for love and her future that she didn't even consider the possibility of Lance, the man whom she heavily depended on and took advantage of, wasn't even a Knight, to begin with.An elderly shareholder pushed up his glasses before speaking up slowly."If Lance doesn't have the Knights' bloodline running through his veins, does this mean everything he's done in the past—including his attempt to claim the inheritance—constitutes fraud?"Another shareholder quickly piped up, "Precisely! The only reason why we c

Once the meeting was over, the preparations for the press conference were done as well.I remained composed even when I was faced with countless cameras and microphones. Soon, I retold everything that had happened recently in a clear, organized manner. The live comments of the ongoing livestream went ballistic, to say the least."So, you're saying that this is just a scheme targeting the current heir of Knight Corp?""I never would've thought that the supposedly noble and aloof lecturer is such a loose woman! She even plans on hooking up with the heir's younger brother despite having snagged the heir as her future husband!""To think that she even goes so far as to frame the heir for the sake of her new lover! Vicious women like her have no right to educate the young!"The livestream of the press conference went on for almost an hour. At one point, the highest number of viewers online hit five million. That meant almost everyone in this city knew about the scandal revolving arou

Later on, Lance sold all the valuables and bought himself a brand-new ID as well as a flight ticket to Freesia at the black market. The police arrested him when he was about to board the flight. In the police station, Lance stubbornly refused to admit having assaulted the Wyndhams."I'm not the person shown in the security footage! Archer must have hired someone to act as me! He did this just so he could frame me for the crime!"But after getting bombarded with a series of questions under intense pressure, Lance changed his tune again."That old hag doesn't have much time left in this world! All I did was hasten the process! Besides, she was the one who made me drop my mom's urn! It's an eye for an eye, so my actions are justified! What I did isn't attempted murder!"Amethyst, who had rushed all the way to the police station, happened to overhear Lance's words. On the way here, she was still finding excuses for him. Perhaps he had broken down after finding out about his actual ba
