Synopsis

Everything's all well either for the young village baker boy, Tristan who lives a simple life with his two younger siblings not so far away from the country's capital. Prologue

電子レンジの音が部屋に響く。
＜トントントン、トントントン＞
まな板の上で野菜を切る音がする。
私は黙々と夕飯の準備をしていた。
今日は残業することもなく、帰宅することができたため、時間には余裕がある。
が、正直心には余裕はない。なぜなら――。
ガチャと玄関ドアが開く音がした。
「おかえり」
「ただいま」
私が声をかけても、なんだか覇気がない返事。
「今日、夕飯いらない。これから飲みに行ってくる」
相手の言葉を聞き、チクッと心が痛んだ。
「えっ、また？夕飯いらないなら早く言ってよ。大和《やまと》の分まで作っちゃったじゃん」
チッと舌打ちのような音が聞こえた後
「そんなの明日食べればいいだろ」
一言そう冷たく言い放ち、彼の部屋のドアがパタンと閉まった。
「はぁ」
必然に溜め息がこぼれる。
私、雨宮くるみ《あめみやくるみ》は近藤大和《こんどうやまと》と婚約中であり、同棲している。
付き合ってもうすぐ三年を迎えようとしていた。
そして部署は違えど、同じ会社に勤めている。
ここ三カ月、大和の態度が変わっていった。
以前は時間が合えば必ず一緒に食べていた夕食や食後の時間も二人で過ごすことがなくなった。
「関係が落ち着いてきただけ」と、自分に言い聞かせてはモヤモヤした気持ちを抱えながら生活している。
だけど、心の奥底で覚悟しているのは、大和はもう私のことを好きではなくなってしまったのではないかという気持ちだった。
浮気を疑ったこともあったが、大和の後輩から＜すみません。愚痴を聞いてもらいたくて先輩を誘ってしまいました＞なんて社内で話しかけられるものだから、彼の社内での立場を守るための付き合いなのではないかと理解しようとしている。
でも大和の外食が増え、彼の分まで夕食を作る私にとって「一言くらい連絡してくれても」という気持ちが拭えない。
大和の部屋に立ち、トントンとノックをする。
「ねえ、ちょっと出かける前に話できない？」
このままだと本当に私たちの関係は終わってしまうのではないかと思った。
「なに？約束しているし、急いでるんだけど」
フォーマルな服装からカジュアルな洋服に着替えた彼は、私を避けるかのように、玄関に向かった。
「付き合いは理解できるよ。だけどやっぱり一言くらい連絡してほしい。明日食べればいいかもだけど、結局大和が食べてくれないから、私が食べることになるし」
「わかった。連絡するよう、気をつけるよ」
その言葉、何度聞いたことだろう。
「ちょっ！」
まだ話は終わってないと伝えようとしたが、私の言葉途中で彼はバタンと勢いよく扉を閉めた。
「なんなの！？」
苛立ちを抑えきれず、彼が去ったドアに向かって怒鳴ってしまった。
近所迷惑にならないように今度は抑えなきゃ。
キッチンへ戻り、作ったシチューを食べているとスマホがピコンと鳴った。
＜急なんだけど、飲みに行かない？明日、休みだし＞
同期の加山由紀《かやまゆき》からだった。
食べちゃったけれど、私も聞いてもらいたいことがあるし、大和も帰ってこないし…。
＜行けるよ！＞
私は返事をし、出かける準備を始めた。
