Honestly, most fics that tackle hierarchy just rehash the same tired tropes from the books. I got way more out of a crossover with 'The Vampire Diaries'—'Blue Origin'—where the Mikaelsons show up and treat the New York coven like a petty social club. The power struggle is immediate and visceral because it's an external force disrespecting their entire structure. The author uses the hybrid nature of Klaus to probe the weaknesses in Blue Blood 'perfection'.
It's not strictly canon, obviously, but it asks better questions about inherited power versus taken power. Sometimes an outside perspective shakes the snow globe better than another internal coup plot.

I found this one deep-dive piece called 'Crimson Legacies' that almost feels like political commentary wrapped in velvet. It builds this whole shadow government within the vampire council, focusing on the Whitelaw and Llewellyn families. The writer clearly did their homework on the established canon hierarchy, then twisted the knife by having the younger vampires use modern financial systems to undermine the ancient blood-oaths. It gets convoluted in the middle chapters with too many original characters, but the core idea of power being less about age and more about controlling information in the digital era is sharp.
What stuck with me was a scene where a centuries-old vampire is utterly baffled by a hostile takeover orchestrated via blockchain and shell companies. The struggle isn't just fangs and glamouring; it's boardrooms and bloodlines. The ending fizzles a bit, but the journey there is a fascinating autopsy of institutional decay.

Try 'Gilded Cage' on AO3. It's a Schuyler-centric fic that frames the hierarchy as a gilded prison, exploring the psychological toll of mandatory allegiance. The power struggles are quiet, domestic, and devastating because of it.

Their lives were laid out, and he was satisfied. Until the vampires came when he was 15 and wanted him as their King. He went with them, and everything changed.
What happens when the High Council does not want them to be mates, and outlaw between species mate pairs, forcing them to reject each other?
Can they fight the High Council? Or will they become too different when they are adults, although they were always close as children? Is between species matepairs just a generally bad idea, or do they have a place in the world - rightful one?
Will Athena and Caspian's love survive outside influences, or will they break under convention and exception?
Follow along on this journey, and if you'd like please read Alpha Blake's Broken Luna and Alpha Blake's Hunted Mate (under one book) first, as this is the third installation in this series.

For hundreds of years, witches have been a sub species to the vampire race, used as slaves to do the bidding of the undead creatures; but when one witch catches the eye of the vampire Prince, all that could change. The very way the world was run will be erupted into chaos, throwing off the balance that so many had died to protect.
When Luna is ripped from her bed in the night, she knew her time had come, that she would pay for her father’s mistake; her world would crumble around her when her mother is killed by the prince and she is taken into his custody. A slave. But that is what all witches should expect, what they are born into. It is the way it had been for hundreds of years, Vampires were the hierarchy of the world, though not that the mortals knew that; and perhaps they never would. The undead creatures liked to feast on the unknowing, on those they could control, dis-guarding the corpses when they had finished.
Luna is taken to A city one hundred and seventy feet under the streets of Paris, there she would have to learn how to be a good slave as those around her all believed that witches and warlocks deserved to be there, that they were a lesser species and needed to be controlled. But when the young witch reveals her power, all that was about to change.
A mind link had never been formed between a witch and a vampire before, no one thought it possible, but when Luna makes it into Silas’ mind something happens; something that would change the course of their destiny and the fate of all those around them.
With rebellion and chaos only around the corner, how will anyone survive?
Honestly, I've been a bit out of the loop with 'Blue Bloods' fic lately, but when I was deep in it, the most compelling stuff was often Danny/Jamie. The familial tension, the clash between Danny's street instincts and Jamie's by-the-book approach—it writes itself. It’s rarely romantic, obviously, but the deep dive into their brotherly bond, especially after Joe’s death, can be heartbreaking and intense. You get fics where they’re forced to work a case together, or where one is in danger and the other goes rogue to save them. That dynamic has more inherent drama than most other pairings in that universe.
I see a lot of Danny/Linda too, but those often feel like extensions of canon, filling in domestic moments. The more offbeat, interesting explorations I’ve stumbled upon were for Frank and Garrett Moore. Their behind-closed-doors strategizing and the weight of the office they share? That’s a goldmine for political and psychological tension, though it’s definitely a niche read.
