Typically you bring up your Android reader’s menu by tapping the top of the screen, and from there you can look for a bookmarking option such as a ribbon or flag. Alternatively many readers enable long pressing a word to bring up a menu to bookmark from there as well. I’m a big fan of using PDFs downloaded from reading platforms that provide handy built-in tools to that end. For example with ‘Marked by the Alpha’ I can sync my progress and all my notes between devices so I can return to the Marked men and their fated mates at my leisure.

The approach I prefer for keeping daily bookmarks to PDFs on Android to be simple is to use the pre-installed ‘Google PDF Viewer’. Here, you simply scroll to the page you want to bookmark, tap the star at the top of the screen and you’re done. Later you can return to your ‘Bookmarks’ in the menu.

More advanced bookmarking can be achieved using 'Adobe Acrobat Reader'. Organizing your bookmarks into folders for lengthy documents such as textbooks or user manuals is made easy using this powerful viewer. bookmarks can be long pressed and dragged or renamed.

The open-source option 'LibreOffice Viewer' also allows for the creation of comments next to the bookmarked spot. What works best for you depends on your own workflow, i.e. whether you prefer something simple and just get the job done or want additional features that are synced across all your devices or that allow you to add annotations in addition to simple bookmarks.

In many cases, reading PDFs on my Android phone, I need to mark pages and later view all the marked up pages that I have bookmarked. I generally open up the files in Adobe Acrobat Reader since that is my PDF reader of choice. Within Reader, I typically click on the page that I wish to bookmark. Then in the right upper corner of the screen, there is a bookmark icon. Click on that icon to add the currently displayed page to your set of bookmarks. Later to view all your bookmarks, you simply click on the left hand slider to bring up the left hand menu and then click on ‘Bookmarks’. All of your bookmarked pages will be displayed in a list. Other PDF viewer apps, such as Xodo and Google PDF Viewer, include similar functionality to bookmarks. The exact steps to complete the functionality may differ slightly from app to app, but the bookmark icon should be present in some form or you can refer to the help pages for the specific app in question.

For PDFs I use different apps for work and for hobbies. To bookmark PDFs on Android I found the following ways to be most efficient. My preferred app to use for bookmarking and annotating PDFs is Xodo PDF Reader. It’s really light-weight and works really well for PDFs of any size and of any purpose.

Another option to add a bookmark is to open your PDF in Google Drive. In Google Drive you can add a bookmark by tapping the three dots at the top right of the PDF and selecting “Add bookmark”. The best part is that your bookmarks are synced across all your devices. This is also a really advanced app for annotating PDFs of books or academic papers, where you can also add notes and choose from a variety of colors for your bookmarks.

PS – Some apps let you export your bookmarks too. You should check the app’s settings to see if it is possible and how it can be done.

An app icon for bookmarking isn’t always obvious to find. In material design-based apps, for example, the bookmarking feature may be included as part of a floating action button (with a ‘+’ inside a circle) which opens up more features to use, or hidden away in a ‘More…’ menu (a column of three dots). Look for bookmarking features throughout the screen and within all of the UI elements that open up once you tap on the screen.

It’s taken me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how to bookmark content in a particular app – apparently it’s hidden under ‘Annotation tools’ in a sub-menu. As ever, user experience is all over the shop.

How does bookmarking work when reading pdf file on Kindle?

6 Answers2025-09-04
After I read this thread I tested it with my Kindle Voyage. As already described, you press the top corner of the screen to bring up the black ribbon. Interestingly enough, when you have set your Kindle to ‘every page’ (instead of ‘less often’), the black screen even flashes for a brief moment when setting a bookmark. However, if you have set your Kindle to ‘less often’, the black ribbon just appears – no full screen refresh involved. This seems to be a very minor detail but it could be important for people who are sensitive to screen flicker.Bookmarking a PDF now feels even more seamless when I have set my Kindle to ‘less often’ for page refreshes.

How to join PDFs and maintain bookmarks?

Most of these PDF combiners are way overkill for use on a Mac. First, you can use Preview to do this. Then, you just open the first PDF in Preview. Go to File>Print and then in the bottom-left of the PDF menu choose "Combine Files…". Add all your PDFs to this file and create a new, combined PDF file. The method described here preserves about 90% of the source file’s bookmarks. Not as reliable as Acrobat, perhaps, but it’s the fastest way to merge a number of PDFs for personal use – and it’s free.

Can google pdf reader sync reading progress across devices?

3 Answers2025-07-15
As a student, I interact daily with numerous PDF files on my tablet, phone, and laptop. Simplest PDF Reader from Google is my default PDF reader because it is so simple. Unfortunately, there is no progress syncing between devices, so I have to resort to Bookmarking individual pages or even taking screenshots of the PDF where I left off. Xodo or Foxit Reader have excellent progress syncing via their cloud services, but I am just a Google guy at heart. Oddly, PDFs that are opened via Google Drive (in the web interface) do appear to remember where one left off. But that does not translate to the mobile app, apparently a separate program with no sharing of state. I suspect here that Google is missing an opportunity to “get PDF reading right” in a manner consistent with their other syncing data in the air and on various devices. Workarounds will do for now, but I hope that proper syncing of PDFs across devices is something they’ll implement in the near future. For casual readers, Google PDF Reader is fine. But for serious readers of PDFs who wish to read them on multiple devices, it’s not worth it.

Can I export Kindle bookmarks for other reading apps?

One reason to export your notes is for writing book reviews. It’s easy enough for me to search for a quote to support a point I’m trying to make in a review and read the surrounding notes in a text file. The way I use highlights for writing book reviews is known as the “Bookcision” method. First you go to your notebook page for that book on Kindle. Then you click the Bookmarklet for Bookcision and it will present you with a very clean page showing all your highlights and notes, one per line. You then just copy that whole page and paste it into a Google Doc. I have a Doc for every book I review. So while this is not a feature natively provided by Kindle highlights, there are community developed solutions that fill this specific need for me and allow me to pursue my hobby of writing reviews of books.

Which best ebooks reader android allows highlighting and notes?

We’ve lost sight of the human element here. The best app is the one that you’ll return to again and again. My friend loves Xodo for PDFs because she can add arrows and circles. I’m a big fan of Moon+ for EPUBs because of the text export option. My spouse only uses the Kindle app because it’s so simple and easy to use. All of these people are correct. The features list doesn’t matter as much as the app becomes a habit for you and you start to naturally reach for it to jot down a thought or note while reading a particular book. Your gut will pick the best tool for you after you’ve downloaded a few and tested them out for a week on each of a few different books.

How do I read a mobi file on an Android phone?

10 Answers2025-07-13
I've come up with a new workflow for side loading mobi files. First, I use the free cloud storage app "FolderSync" to automatically transfer any mobi files added to a PC folder to a designated Android folder. Next, I use the Ebook Reader app and set the watch folder to the newly created Android folder. As soon as a new file is added to the Android folder, it is instantly added to the Ebook Reader library. This is slightly over-engineered for one book, but incredibly powerful if you’re a side-loader of lots of e-books from a variety of sources. Dropping a file on your PC is enough, and within a minute or so it’s been downloaded, and you can fire up the eBook Reader app and begin to read the newly-downloaded e-book. This really shows off the flexibility of Android. We can leave this process as it is, or simplify/tweak it to fit individual needs.

What is the storyline of Seasons of Loss Android?

5 Answers2026-04-02
For comparison’s sake, other android narratives such as Detroit: Become Human are focused around explosive revolution, or existential horror as seen in Soma. Seasons of Loss is the opposite, an intimate, contemplative story focused around one android, delving deep into their quiet personal crisis, searching for meaning. I found it more psychologically resonant as it took the cosmic dread of obsolescence and asked a simple yet relatable question: what do you do when the reason for your routine has ceased to exist? The answer is given in a subtle, bittersweet yet strangely comforting manner.

Can you install apps on an Android e ink e-reader?

10 Answers2026-03-28
So that’s F-Droid for you – install it on a device without Google Play Services (a task which can take some work to set up on an Android e-ink reading device) and you can choose from loads of open-source apps with a healthy focus on user privacy. So, you can have a reading device that doesn’t call home to Amazon, Google, etc. as long as you’re careful to choose appropriate reading apps. The privacy conscious reader can have a very controlled reading environment on such a device, far more so than a Kindle for example.

How to write on a pdf document with a stylus?

10 Answers2025-07-02
Annotating sensitive documents such as contracts, medical records, or confidential reports requires extra attention to privacy and security. You need to be aware of where the annotated file is saved and synced. Does the annotated PDF automatically upload to a server in another country? Can the annotation tool read through your annotated content? For extremely sensitive work, consider using annotation tools that work 100% offline and only save files locally on your device, in encrypted storage. If you use a cloud-based storage provider, make sure it’s a trusted, secure solution that you control. Be aware that shared annotated PDFs can reveal the edit history as well as hidden layers, depending on how you exported the marked-up document. Always review the annotated PDF before sharing sensitive content and consider using ‘flatten and sanitize’ export option.
