How To Get My Husband On My Side Novel Ending Explained?

Just finished reading How to Get My Husband on My Side and honestly, the climax left me a little confused. Was Rubeum's final decision about their marriage satisfying to anyone else? Felt like the webtoon adaptation set different expectations.

I would reference an author’s afterword or bonus chapters to provide end explanations for novels, often the official website of a novel or fan-made wikis also detail the end of a novel. There are many stories that reach a definitive conclusion and provide readers with complete satisfaction. After Rebirth, I Married My Ex-husband’s Enemy is one such story. This novel’s core of revenge is thoroughly resolved in the end. In particular, the calculated measures of the heroine’s alliance with another party, and the dramatic confrontation that occurred in the end, are unequivocally in favor of the heroine.

‘How to Get My Husband on My Side’ was another awesomely written novel that grabbed me from start to finish, and had me pulling for Ruby in the bittersweet but finally positive end to the book. The last chapter, with Ruby finally gaining access to Izek’s tightly locked emotional world in the after of the huge and dramatic confrontation with the royal family was fabulous. She uses her biggest weakness against them in this.

I appreciated the epilogue a lot and how slowly Ruby and Izek rebuilt their relationship. He learned to talk to her instead of just being all closed off all the time. It’s a messy, non-fairytale-esque ‘we’re trying’ kind of relationship. The end was very good at showing how trust takes time to build, especially after the kind of trauma that they went through. I actually teared up at one point when he secretly planted her favorite flowers.

I liked how Ruby’s character was wrapped up and how she stopped seeing herself as a burden and how she demanded real partnership from Izek. I loved that in the coup she refused to leave him and said “I choose us” to him. This novel was mostly character development and I liked that it didn’t have a ton of action to the plot. I wish that the big bad had been wrapped up a bit faster but the quiet scene at the end where they were sharing childhood stories under the stars was so much better than a bunch of pyrotechnics. This is a great book for people who want lots of emotional connection at the end.

Instead I got to a great emotional climax with Ruby realizing that she had been trying to win Izek her whole time, and having a very honest conversation with him about her fears. It was surprisingly moving, even more so than some of the action packed battles throughout the book. He eventually breaks down and confesses that he’s afraid to lose her.

Oh and there’s a bit of a minor spoiler for the last chapters in the epilogue: the two of them as parents to a toddler, and it’s so sweet. Izek panics over a fever but handles it well, and Ruby is just happy to see him fall apart. (As always.) It would be great to know more about the rest of the side characters though.

I want to talk about the final scene in the garden of The Starless Sea. All of the story’s complicated plotting and magical action yields to this simple moment: Ruby is able to eat in safety, with Izek there. That is the “ending explained” in all its mundane detail. Ruby and Izek are safe, and that is because of each other. All of the strategies for how to get the other person on your side get thrown out the window in favor of brutal, unvarnished honesty, which breaks down walls between people. In the end, it’s just that simple.

The fan content for this novel is just amazing and really fills out the characters. There are many amazing fanarts that capture the wordless moments where the characters just stare at each other longingly, or are in protective mode, or even in despair. The fanfics explore all sorts of alternate scenarios, such as what would have happened if Izek had realized the truth earlier, or if Ruby was a more outspoken defiance kind of character. The fan songs and playlists that express the feeling of longing and yearning for more are especially great. Engaging with fan content can even help solidify your mental image of characters, and give you something to consider while waiting for the next chapter. As with so much of the online fan space, just be aware of major spoilers for those who haven’t yet finished reading the book. But if you have, sinking into the wonderful world of fan created Izek/Ruby content is a wonderful way to stay immersed in the deep complexities of these frustratingly wonderful characters.
