'Get Shit Done' is one of those books that had me bouncing off the walls of a coffee shop late at night reading it. It’s a very no-nonsense book that will straight up tell you things you don’t want to hear but are very true. One of the biggest insights I got from reading this book is the concept of ‘burning the boats’. Basically it means to abandon all safety nets and totally commit to your goals. The way I understand it is that half-hearted efforts get half-hearted results. I have a ton of side projects that I’ve kind of been half-committing to over the years and after reading this I realized that all the energy I’ve been expending on trying to keep all of these things going could be better spent focusing on just one thing and cutting out as many distractions as possible, even if that means fear. The other point the book made that I’ve tried to really apply is the “2 minute rule”. This means if something is going to take less than 2 minutes to complete then you should do it the instant it comes up. I used to let so many tiny things pile up and then not know where to start because they all seemed to require the same amount of time to complete. I try to apply this as much as possible and it really clears up a lot of mental clutter. The other big point the book makes is that you have to be willing to be very ruthless when it comes to prioritizing your tasks. Not all tasks are created equal. I’ve started to classify my to-do list into “must do”, “should do”, and “could do” in order to make sure I’m not wasting time on things that are not going to have a huge impact. This book has such a great, straight-shooting tone for a self-help book. Yes, there is hard work involved to become great, but that is just how it is. Reading about how important it is to become comfortable with being uncomfortable in order to reach your goals really hit home with me. I love how ‘Get Shit Done’ dares you to search for discomfort on a daily basis in order to reach your goals. This book has inspired me to tackle projects that make me nervous and, although they are stressful, there is nothing like the sense of progress you feel after completing something that you were unsure if you could do.

'The Purpose Driven Life' is an amazing resource that outlines how to find direction and meaning. One of the biggest insights I have gained from reading the book is that each person has their own unique purpose or role in life that no other person can fill. It’s like everyone is a puzzle piece and we all fit into the puzzle in our own unique way. Another part of The Purpose Driven Life that resonated with me was the author’s obvious adoration of the value that is placed on community and on serving others. It makes me think of ways I could better serve others and how that would in turn fill my own soul with joy. Many times simply being there for someone or doing something to help them can solidify one’s sense of purpose. This book is a real treat, and if you’re looking for something to uplift you, then this could be a great read to check out.

There are no direct sequels to Twilight. Meyer has written companion novels to return to locations within the original story line. The Twilight Saga is a complete five-book series including Midnight Sun. All new stories would be written by other authors in the form of fan fiction or other media such as graphic novels.

The role of chance in our lives is greater than we can imagine and so, our hatreds, laboriously constructed and made strong and tall, are highly absurd in the face of chance. A fall of the tree a foot to the left, the storm staying away, the wolves being somewhere else – and all that we had made so strong would collapse like a house of cards. It makes us humble. Our great hatred is not a great and eternal hatred. It is a fragile and slight thing that can be destroyed by chance in a split second. That is why we must not give it too much importance.

The main message of ‘Power’ is that power is more effective when it is distributed than when it is centralized. When our hero first starts exploring the power dynamics of his world, he assumes that all power needs to be grabbed by the hero and controlled by him in order for him to become the great hero. When the protagonist of ‘Power’ passes on a crucial task to a member of his team he is not demonstrating an obvious transfer of power. At the same time however he is trusting the other person to complete the task to the best of their ability, and therefore in this act the protagonist is increasing his own power and that of the other team member. Power as a journey and not as a destination also plays a major role in this book. The main character learns that the highest power is not to be on top of other people but to bring others up as well. The main message is that power is something to be shared and that its value is in how you distribute it.

Tate Langdon's status in 'American Horror Story: Murder House' is one of those deliciously ambiguous things that makes the show so compelling. At first glance, yeah, he's definitely a ghost—he died in the 90s during the school shooting, and he's trapped in the Murder House like all the other spirits. But what's fascinating is how the show plays with his existence. He interacts physically with Violet, has relationships, even seems to grow emotionally... until you remember he can't leave. The writers blur the lines between ghost and something more complex, like a manifestation of trauma. That scene where Violet realizes he's dead? Chilling. It's not just about being a ghost; it's about how the house twists souls. What gets me is how Tate embodies both vulnerability and monstrosity. He's a ghost, sure, but he's also a metaphor for cyclical violence and unresolved pain. The show never lets you forget his atrocities (like the shooting), yet you see moments where he seems almost human. That duality is what makes him unforgettable—and why fans still debate whether he's 'just' a ghost or something far darker.

Most series lay out the premise for the reader's benefit. Secret Class launches into the first chapters as a wild rush to set up the ‘why’ for these stories so that we can move on to the ‘what’ (which is to be revealed in subsequent chapters, we suppose). The ‘why’ here is flimsy to say the least, but that’s not really the point of all this – the fig leaf is there and we’re good to move on. The rest of the volume is just a string of episodic encounters, but the characters look nice and the art is very polished. For readers who don’t get excited by the art or the core concept of the series, there’s nothing to win them over in the writing. It’s a series that clearly knows its audience.

I’ve always assumed that Hilary Swank was American but a few days ago I read an in-depth article about actors who still hold on to their original passports and I was surprised to see her name listed, alongside the likes of Anthony Hopkins (still Welsh/British) and Charlize Theron (became an American citizen although this was big news at the time). This has opened my eyes and I had no idea that living and working in a country for 50 years or more does not automatically mean that you are a citizen. Her choice is telling of her love for her birth country, even though she now resides in a country on the other side of the world.

I was excited to explore how Kya could have possibly managed to kill Chase given her history with him and her general inability to deal with humans. The answer is simple: the marsh was her weapon. For years Kya had observed how various nature creatures eliminated threats to their survival. How a predator would set up a ‘trap’ in order to destroy an intruder. How the tide would come in and wash away any trace of what had once existed. Kya would use all of these same methods to eliminate Chase, the man who had assaulted her and then continued to taunt her by pretending to want to return to her years after the fact. He wore the seashell necklace that she had given him as a symbol of their ‘affair’ and she used it to bait him in order to kill him and make it look like a crime that no one could have suspected her of having committed. The fire tower scene is amazing. She uses Chase's belief that Kya is too wild to be smart against him. There's enough evidence to make people wonder who could have done it, but not enough to make sure that Kya gets in trouble for it. And then the poetry at the end of the book is so wonderful. It makes sense of so much of what Tate had figured out about Kya, namely that her quietness had not been ignorance, but rather calculation. In another story, this would be the action of a villain. But because the world has failed Kya so completely, her attempt to get back at the person who had failed her the most is something that the reader can feel(ambivalently)ision with.

Searching Archive.org for the URL of an author’s past website, or even for the URL of writing communities and forums that the author was once a part of, can lead to surprising results. It’s even possible to find a story posted on a single web page, dug up from the depths of the author’s old website from 2007 and resurrected for your reading pleasure. There’s a lot of guesswork and poking around involved, but it’s all totally worth it.
