I appreciate how the twist isn’t spoiled by the volume cover or title. The cover features a determined Mirio in his hero costume, which in hindsight feels almost ironic. You go in thinking it’s ‘his’ volume, a showcase. And it is, but not in the way you expect. It’s a showcase of his character, not his power. The title ‘Red Riot’ for one of the chapters focuses on Kirishima, subtly diverting attention. There’s no big ‘The Fall of Lemillion’ headline to telegraph the twist. It’s allowed to happen organically within the flow of the raid, which makes the shock so much more genuine and effective. It respects the reader’s immersion.

You know, it’s interesting to compare the fan reaction then versus now. When the chapter first dropped, the forums were in meltdown. Pure disbelief, anger, grief. Now, looking back, it’s universally praised as one of the series’ boldest and best moments. The twist works because it’s not done for shock value alone; every consequence is explored thoroughly. Mirio’s subsequent depression, his role as a mentor at U.A., his unwavering spirit—it all stems from this one moment. A twist that only shocks is forgettable. A twist that fundamentally alters a character’s path and the audience’s understanding of the story’s rules is legendary. This is the latter.

The use of flashbacks gains new weight. Scenes of All Might in his prime, used earlier for inspiration, now become sources of painful nostalgia and contrast. The twist is in the emotional resonance of memory. Remembering how powerful he was now hurts, because that power is gone forever. It teaches the characters (and the audience) to appreciate moments of peace and strength while they last, because they can be shattered in an instant. This lends a bittersweet, almost elegiac quality to the storytelling moving forward, where the past is both a guide and a ghost.

The emotional tone of the class changes. The bright, competitive camaraderie of the early days is shadowed by shared trauma and fear. The twist is their collective loss of innocence. They've seen the symbol of their dreams broken, a city destroyed, and a classmate (Bakugo) kidnapped and rescued in a war zone. They're not just playing at being heroes anymore; they've been blooded. This shared experience bonds them more deeply but also weighs them down. Their conversations become more serious, their training more intense, and their jokes a little more forced, reflecting the heavier world they now inhabit.

For me, the key twist was visual and thematic: the Symbol of Peace breaking. The image of All Might's muscular form finally giving out, not in a blaze of glory, but in a exhausted whisper to Midoriya on a rooftop. It's the moment the title 'My Hero Academia' gets inverted; the 'Academia' part has to step up because the established 'Hero' is gone. The twist is that the story we thought we were reading—a boy training to become like his idol—suddenly becomes a story about that boy having to become something entirely new because the idol's model is obsolete. The safety net is gone. It's a masterstroke that forces every character to grow up faster than they expected.

What key plot twist occurs in My Hero Academia manga vol 7?

Everyone talks about Stain, but the real underrated twist is the aftermath for Iida. He goes in driven by vengeance for his brother, completely abandoning everything a hero should be. The twist is his total failure and near-death, saved only by Deku and Shoto. It's a brutal lesson that the desire for personal justice can make you the opposite of a hero. That character breakdown and rescue was way more shocking to me than the villain's monologue.

How does My Hero Academia Vol 18 set up the next story arc?

The setup is in the power scaling. Mirio is shown to be so overwhelmingly powerful that he makes the main cast look like children. This immediately raises the bar. If that's the level of a top student, what kind of villain can challenge him? It forces the narrative to introduce a threat of a completely different caliber—one that isn't just about raw power, but about hax abilities and psychological warfare, which is exactly what Overhaul brings.

What key battles happen in My Hero Academia Vol 10?

Is it weird that my strongest memory from that volume isn't a battle in the traditional sense, but the atmosphere? The shift from the upbeat school festival to the ominous, quiet tension of the woods is a battle in itself for the reader's sense of security. When the villains appear, it's not a duel; it's a hunting party. Specific fight-wise, yeah, Deku versus Muscular is the centerpiece. The way Deku pushes One For All to 1,000,000% or whatever he shouts is just iconic. But also, seeing the usually unflappable Aizawa rushing in, knowing his kids are in danger, adds another layer. The battle isn't just physical; it's the battle to maintain the foundational idea that these students are safe under their teachers' watch. That idea gets completely wrecked by the volume's end.

Where does My Hero Academia Vol 18 fit in the series timeline?

Compared to earlier volumes, this one has less schoolroom humor and more street-level investigation. That shift in setting within the timeline signals the characters' growth. They're not just students anymore; they're apprentices on real cases.

What key moments for Endeavor happen in My Hero Academia Vol 29?

His dynamic with Hawks gets fascinating layers here. Hawks starts the fight seeing Endeavor as a relic, a flawed replacement. But by orchestrating the fight's location and providing key support, he becomes an active participant in crafting the 'Symbol' he thinks society needs. He's testing Endeavor as much as helping him. Their teamwork, though limited, shows a potential professional respect forming. Hawks' pragmatism meets Endeavor's brutal force. It sets up their complicated, tragic partnership later on. This volume is the awkward, violent first date of their professional relationship.

What major battles take place in My Hero Academia Vol 18?

It's interesting to note what the battles aren't. They aren't tidy one-on-one duels. They're messy, multi-party clashes where objectives change by the second. The major battle is the exam itself, a test of adaptability. Inasa's interference turns it into a test of endurance against overwhelming force. Toga's interference turns it into a test of courage and quick thinking against malice. The students fail and succeed in various ways across these tests. The physical victory is less important than the lessons learned, which is a recurring theme in MHA.

Which key villain plots advance in My Hero Academia Vol 24?

Giran's role is highlighted. He's the broker who connects the underworld, and his capture by the MLA is a major event. It shows the MLA's reach and methodology—they target key infrastructure figures, not just frontline fighters. This forces the League's hand and directly leads to their fateful meeting with Re-Destro. It's a plot that advances through pressure applied to the villains' support network, not through a direct attack on the heroes.

Casually dropping in to say I'm still recovering from the Dabi stuff. That's all. Carry on.

I wish we got more of the Kirishima/Sato side action. It's glossed over pretty quickly. It would have been nice to see another duo handling a different type of crisis, to further contrast methods. Their battle is more of an afterthought, which is a missed opportunity.
