This might be an unpopular take, but I find the most faithful translations are often for novels that aren't action-packed power fantasies. Slice-of-life or romance stories demand more subtlety in translation to capture relationship nuances.
The work on 'A Business Proposal' web novel adaptation, for instance, had to carefully navigate the formal and informal speech levels between the leads. Getting that wrong changes the entire dynamic. The official translation on Manta seems to have nailed that delicate balance, making the emotional beats land exactly as intended.
Sometimes a 'faithful' translation can feel too stiff because it's trying to mirror Korean syntax too closely. The best translations, in my opinion, understand the core of a sentence and then express it in natural, idiomatic English.
This might mean changing the order of clauses or using a different metaphor that evokes the same feeling. That's not unfaithful; that's skilled adaptation. It requires a translator who is a creative writer in their own right, not just a bilingual dictionary.
The collaborative translation model used by some scanlation groups can be a double-edged sword. Multiple translators and editors can catch errors and debate meanings, leading to a more polished, faithful end product.
But if there's high turnover or poor communication, you get whiplash from style changes. The most faithful group translations have a strong lead translator or editor who maintains a consistent style guide and vision for the entire project from start to finish.
Man, I tried reading the official translation for one novel after reading the fan translation, and it felt totally different. The fan version had more personality, even if it was rougher. The official one was sterile. Faithful to the dictionary, maybe, but not to the feeling.
So maybe 'faithful' isn't always better? Sometimes a translator's love for the material adds a spark that a strictly accurate corporate translation misses. The best ones manage both, but they're rare.

I woke up inside a novel, and not even as an important character.
I became a pretty background extra in a smut novel.
My brother, however, was the only normal person in the entire story.
His character setting was the one man the soft, delicate heroine could never win over.
He was the cold, unattainable Prince Charming she could never conquer.
When the heroine cried and confessed her love, he was studying.
When she offered him her whole heart and body, he was busy starting a company.
When she spiraled into scandals and nightlife, he was already a billionaire, calm and untouchable.
I thought he would live a quiet, ascetic life forever.
Until one night, I walked in on him at midnight…
holding a piece of clothing I recognized all too well, murmuring a name over and over, a name so familiar that my scalp tingled.

Knowing how skilled she was, Lee Hyun-woo wanted her to work for him but she would only accept it if he would reveal his true identity. Lee Hyun-woo accepted the challenge on one condition—she had to defeat him in a duel.
But what if the so-called duel ends up in bed, would it change everything?
After transmigrating into a novel, I realized the heroine and I had the exact same name.
Naturally, I thought I had transmigrated into the female lead.
So I marched straight to the man who was still a broke nobody at the time, threw all caution to the wind, and pounced on him like I had plot armor protecting me.
He even glared at me with red eyes and told me he hated me. I honestly thought he was just into the whole push-and-pull thing.
Everything shattered when the real heroine showed up and I finally understood one thing. He actually hated me.
Heartbroken, I packed my bags and got ready to disappear.
The next second, he pinned me against the wall.
"Where are you going? Already bored of me, sweetheart?"

The day my elder sister stole my fiancé from me, I did not fight back.
Instead, I slipped past the maid guarding me and went straight to find my father.
“She can have my fiancé. I’m marrying the Regent!”
My father stared at me in shock.
Everyone knew the Regent was in charge, but rumors said he could not father a child and had a nasty temper.
What they did not know was that I was born under heaven’s favor—blessed with the gift of life itself.
In my previous life, that blessing became my curse. My elder sister and stepmother smeared my name, claiming that my curves and easy fortune meant I had been defiled before marriage.
My fiancé was disgusted and turned away from me. That was when my sister seized the chance to take my place.
Even on her wedding day, my sister was not at ease. She had me dragged away like a lowly servant and sent to a brothel, ordering the madam to torture me.
While I lay dying in the dark, she lived in the light, bearing children with my former fiancé and enjoying a lifetime of happiness that should have been mine.
Now that I had been given another life, I refused to bow to fate again.
She might have stolen my fiancé, but she could never take the blessing I was born with.
A normal girl is living her typical normal life until an accident causes her to Transmigrate into a not so happy ending novel. It is up to her to create a new identity and give the novel a happy ending or a steamy one as she catches the eyes of the demon CEO who isn't ready to let her go.
The audiobook versions are starting to pop up too! That's a whole new format. 'The Remarried Empress' audiobook is in progress. Not complete yet, but it's another way to experience a 'book edition.' The narration adds a different emotional layer to the romance.
I get overwhelmed by choice, so I just pick one series and find its official source. That leads me down a rabbit hole on that one platform. Once I've exhausted its recommendations, I move to another platform with a new series. It's a slow, organic way to explore the legal ecosystem without getting stressed about optimizing everything.
Right now, I'm living on Manta because I found one amazing romance novel there, and their algorithm has served me three more I love. Next month, I might jump to Wuxiaworld based on a friend's recommendation. The point is to start somewhere legitimate, not to map the entire universe before reading a single chapter.
Just start. The rest will follow.
