I disagree slightly with the premise that ‘light-hearted’ means no substance. Some of the most feel-good stories for me have a solid core of personal struggle that makes the happy ending earned. Katherine Center’s books are masterful at this. 'The Bodyguard' isn’t just a fluffy celebrity romance; the heroine is a bodyguard dealing with professional disrespect and personal grief. The romance that develops feels safe and delightful precisely because she’s so competent and the hero respects her utterly. The humor is character-driven and warm.
Similarly, 'The Flatshare' by Beth O’Leary. The premise could be weird, but it’s handled with such kindness and emotional intelligence. The characters work through past trauma in believable ways, supporting each other without toxicity. The slow build of intimacy through notes is uniquely charming. It leaves you feeling optimistic about people.

Honestly, a lot of contemporary romance feels too stressful for me—I hate even a hint of a love triangle. I stick to authors who are known for pure, comforting vibes. Tessa Dare’s historicals, like 'The Governess Game', are my comfort food. They’re funny and steamy, but the conflict is never between the main couple doubting each other; it’s always external or internal growth stuff. The heroines are clever, and the heroes are total goners for them from the start.
In the contemporary lane, I devour anything by Lucy Score. 'Things We Never Got Over' is long and meandering in the best way—you just get to live in that small town with those chaotic, loving people. The spice is there but it’s fun, not dark. It’s the literary equivalent of putting on soft socks.

Man, I’ve been on such a mission for books that just feel like a warm hug lately. My absolute favorite from last year was 'The Bookshop on the Corner' by Jenny Colgan—it’s about a librarian who starts a mobile bookshop in a Scottish village. The romance is super slow and gentle, with zero drama from other love interests. It’s all about finding your place and a quiet, genuine connection. The whole vibe is cozy and low-stakes, perfect for when you’re mentally exhausted. I also re-read 'Bet Me' by Jennifer Crusie when I need a guaranteed laugh and a ridiculously charming couple. The banter is top-tier, and you just know everything will work out in the silliest, most heartwarming way.
For something more recent, 'The Dead Romantics' by Ashley Poston surprised me. Okay, it’s about a ghostwriter who can see ghosts, which sounds dark, but it’s actually incredibly sweet and hopeful. The romantic lead is so supportive and kind, and it deals with heavy themes like grief with a really light, uplifting touch. It proves a book can have emotional depth without ever feeling heavy or angsty. That’s my personal benchmark now.

For a sure thing, try authors like Sophie Kinsella or Emily Henry’s 'Book Lovers'. Kinsella’s 'I Owe You One' is classic mistaken-identity froth. Henry’s book is wittier and more meta, about two cynical literary types, but the core romance is surprisingly soft and affirming. The dialogue crackles, and you never doubt the HEA. Both are like a perfect palate cleanser.

This book gathers different love stories, yes, love stories.
All these stories that I collected over time, that were told to me by friends, acquaintances, relatives and others from my own imagination ink.
And perhaps, there is some coincidence.
For a historical setting with zero toxicity and all the gentle yearning, I devour Georgette Heyer's romances. 'Cotillion' is a masterclass. The hero and heroine enter a fake engagement, and his growing admiration for her cleverness and spirit is shown through subtle, witty dialogue. The romance is in the barbs that gradually soften into affection. It's comfort reading of the highest order.
