A minor tip: sometimes the audio samples are misleading. Listen to a sample of Volume 1 and Volume 2 to ensure the audio quality and narrator's pacing are consistent. I've had series where the recording quality dipped in later volumes, which was more jarring than any plot confusion. For this series, though, I haven't heard any complaints.

Could the confusion stem from multiple narration platforms? I know some series have exclusive deals, so the 'complete' order might only be on one service. For this one, Audible seems to have them all in a row. Other services might be missing a volume, which would mess up your perceived order.

I enjoyed the series, but the middle book felt like a bridge. Still, listening in order was crucial. Book 1's ending has a major cliffhanger that Book 2 resolves. Book 2 ends with a revelation about the dragon gods that sets up Book 3's entire plot. You'd completely miss the narrative tension and payoff if you listened out of sequence.

My two cents: just dive into Book 1. Overthinking the order sucks the fun out of discovering a new series. If you like the first few hours, you'll naturally want the next one. The platform will usually suggest 'Next in Series' anyway. Let the algorithm guide you this once.

The order is chronological and release-based. But think about mood. Volume 1 is heavy on setup and explanation. If you can power through that, Volume 2 picks up the action. So the 'order' is also a commitment to get to the good stuff. It's worth it.

Since The Fires of Alira one thousand five hundred years ago, dragons have lived separate from the other races in Midgar. They rarely make contact with others, unless in terms of conflict.
Eleonora is the descendant of the dragon sovereign, and will one day assume the throne of the Perilous Horde herself. The horde, despite years of murky conflict, forges an alliance with the human kingdom of Samirya located in the northern region. It is no longer a matter of petty bickering. Now, with the eve of a Great War looming over them, both groups lives depend on a truce.
As conflict thickens and land disputes grow increasingly more bitter, the chieftain of the Perilous Horde makes a final desperate move to unite the two worlds: the dragons will send an ambassador to protect the humans capital city of Mimmgar from the oncoming invasion.
And who should be that ambassador be but Eleonora?
Eleonora just hopes to complete that task quickly so she can return home, but soon finds that the humans are nothing like she expected. Forming an unforeseen connection with the human king, and becoming captivated by a young blacksmith, she begins to question everything she's ever known and learns that her homeland may have some terrible secrets of its own.
Book one of A Dragon’s Legacy.
I think people get too hung up on perfection. It's a webnovel, not 'Ulysses'. Jump in, start reading. If you hit a point where a character references something you haven't seen, maybe you missed a chapter. Go look for it then. It's an adventure!
Half the fun of these communities is collectively figuring out the mess together.
especially niche ones like 'My Dragon System'. While I can't point you to a legit free source for this specific title, I’ve found that platforms like Librivox and Audible’s free trial often have hidden gems. For fan-made content, YouTube sometimes has amateur readings, though quality varies. I’d suggest checking if the author/publisher has released free samples on SoundCloud or Spotify—some indie creators do this to build hype.
