Where Do The Ninth House Books Fit Into Leigh Bardugo’S Reading Order?

I finally picked up Leigh Bardugo's Ninth House and Hell Bent but my Grishaverse books are all over the place. Trying to place Alex Stern's story timeline-wise after Shadow and Bone.

Reading the Grishaverse first gives you an appreciation for her tropes. Then, when you read Ninth House, you see her deconstruct those same tropes—the chosen one, the dark lord, the training montage—in real time. It's a masterclass in how an author can use their own past work as a foundation to build something wildly subversive and new. That meta-layer is lost if you read Ninth House in isolation.

I accidentally read 'Harrow the Ninth' first, thinking it was a standalone. Big mistake. Don't do that. Beyond that, I don't think it matters. My chaotic path was: 'Six of Crows', then 'Gideon', then the 'Shadow and Bone' trilogy, then 'Harrow', then 'King of Scars'. It was fine! It was like getting pieces of a mosaic from different boxes—the picture of Bardugo's career still came together beautifully in the end.

Honestly, the only wrong order is reading 'Harrow the Ninth' before 'Gideon the Ninth'. That's it. Everything else is fair game. I know people who started with 'Ninth House' as their first Bardugo and became mega-fans. I know others who started with 'Six of Crows' and can't get into the Ninth House tone. It's entirely subjective. Her fanbase isn't a monolith; we all arrived via different paths.

Pragmatically, check your library's wait lists. Maybe 'Six of Crows' is available now, but 'Gideon the Ninth' has a 12-week hold. Start with what you can get immediately. There's no prize for reading in a 'pure' order. The goal is to enjoy the books, not to check them off a list in the correct sequence. Let availability decide for you sometimes.

What is the chronological reading order of all Leigh Bardugo novels?

6 답변2026-07-30 16:37:58
The Netflix adaptation really messed with people's perception of the order. It presents a blended timeline. If you watched the show first, just mentally separate the Crows' early heist from the book timeline. In the books, their story happens after the trilogy's war. So when you read the Six of Crows duology, remember that the characters are older and more established than their show counterparts, and they haven't met Alina. That clarification helps a lot.

How do I read Leigh Bardugo’s series in publication order?

My two cents: The Grisha trilogy is a complete arc. 'Six of Crows' is a separate, complete arc. 'King of Scars' is a sequel to both. Therefore, you must read both preceding arcs before starting 'King of Scars'. That's really the only rule. Publication order just happens to be the simplest way to ensure that.

In what order should I read Leigh Bardugo’s Grishaverse series?

Imagine reading 'Rule of Wolves' without knowing who the Crows are, or what happened to Nina. You'd be so confused. That's the biggest argument against a purely chronological order that mixes series. The duologies are meant to be consumed as complete blocks. Keep the blocks in order: Trilogy block, Crows block, King of Scars block.

When will Leigh Bardugo release ninth house book 3?

Can't hide it — I'm sitting here just as eager as anyone about when Leigh Bardugo will drop book three of 'Ninth House'. As of my latest check, there's no official release date announced. Book launches are weird beasts; sometimes authors keep things tightly under wraps until a few months before publication, and other times publishers tease details far in advance. The only reliable thing is that nothing concrete has been shared publicly yet. If you want a rough sense of timing: major authors often have multi-year gaps between big projects, and life, edits, contractual schedules, and other creative work all slow things down. My hope (and pure fan speculation) is that an announcement could come within a year of the actual release, but that’s only based on how the industry usually behaves. I'll be stalking her feed and newsletter like everyone else, and honestly I can't wait to get back into that world — the tension, the magic, the messy moral choices — it’s exactly my kind of book night fuel.
