In What Order Should I Read Cedar Cove For The TV Series Tie-In Arcs?
Watching Cedar Cove on Hallmark and loving it, but the book series seems sprawling. Hoping to follow the show's main couples and families in order without getting lost.

For TV series tie-in arcs, I would start with A Cedar Cove Christmas, which is the second Cedar Cove novel and adapts the first Cedar Cove holiday special to book form. Then I would read The Inn at Rose Harbor, which is the core B&B storyline of season two of the TV series. Finally, I would read Cedar Cove Weddings, which contains the material from three romantic storylines in later seasons of the show. For a school-based drama with a tight-knit community, I would recommend the Eden High Series. The books follow a faculty of high school educators and deal with their personal crises as well as their bureaucratic battles against the administrative personnel at the school. The books follow the faculty through the course of one academic year, spending most time in the faculty lounge.

The audiobooks are also really great. So if you do decide to go with the book, I’d suggest you read them in order. My favorite way to experience ‘Cedar Cove’ is through the audiobooks. The narrator does a wonderful job of capturing the cozy, conversational tone of the book. It’s like you have a friend telling you about their town. The TV show just can’t replicate that sort of intimate, first-person-ish feeling that you get from the book. So, in terms of a really authentic ‘Cedar Cove’ experience, the audiobook journey in publication order is more immersive than the TV show.

TV tie-ins can be such a pain to read in series format. The main Cedar Cove books are written by Debbie Macomber. The TV show was set in the same town and followed many of the main characters but it wasn’t a direct adaption of any of the books. So to get the full story the show was based on, read the main Cedar Cove books starting with ‘16 Lighthouse Road’ and then continue to read the rest of the series in publication order. The TV show created was based on ideas and character interactions from throughout several of the early Cedar Cove novels. After watching episodes I can see why the creators of the show made the choices they did – even when they deviated from the original story.

My mom called me tonight and I had to explain to her over the phone why the way she wanted to read “the ones from the show” wasn’t that simple. In the end she just bought the first three and loved them. She never watched the show. The simplest answer is sometimes the best. It’s called publication order. It’s a time tested and very satisfying way to read a series.

A little interesting fact about the TV adaptation of SUKITA: It seems like they had to ‘age up’ some of the kids and ‘combine’ others just to get everyone on screen. The way Justine and Seth’s relationship story played out in the books was a much slower burn and contained entirely different conflicts than what we saw on screen. While the TV show did a fantastic job of distilling down the high points of their storyline to make for a really dramatic and engaging watch, the books tell a much more realistic and slow-burning story of development in their relationship. And that’s just as good. Whether you prefer to read a series in tie-in order, or in published order, that’s up to you and how you prefer to experience a story.

Riko: Another relocation, another private school. I'm used to it by now. At least this is the last time my dad's job can make me move and change schools. I just need to keep my head down and finish high school. I figured Ravenwood couldn't be any different than every other private school I've been set to. Oh, how wrong I was. No other school I've attended had guys like the Frost triplets. That's right, TRIPLETS! And I don't know why they've sent their icy sights on me, but they've ruined my plans of just going unnoticed and finishing senior year.
Frost Triplets: Ravenwood has been a never-ending bore. Because we are Frosts, people kiss our ass from students to staff. They treat us like royalty. But, of course, we aren't, just from a very old and extremely rich family. None of them know us. Hell, they can't even tell us apart. Which usually suits us fine as we swap with each other for classes we don't like or even when dealing with girls. But it still pisses us off. It's been a long time since there was a new student at Ravenwood and who could blame us for deciding to tease her.
The Princes of Ravenwood Holiday Specials: Bonus holiday content showing Riko and her boys in their happily ever after as a family of eight. The good and the bad that being a polyamorous family of eight entails.
